Has anyone used this hole in the firewall to pass wires through?

Just pop a hole above that main harness where the silver is. Thats where a clutch for the manual trans version would go. Go buy a grommet and you are good to go.

My firewall had an unused grommet in almost that exact spot. I poked a hole in it and ran three sets of wires through. If there isn't an unused grommet in that area then I would absolutely use the one you circled if your wires will fit.

The grommet below is where I went. If you look at the inside I believe it has individual nips around the main harness- cut a nip and run it.

My auto had a unused grommet spot like said above, worked perfect.

I know it's a few years later but how did you end up passing the wire?

I'm not the OP but I struggled with this for longer than I'd like to admit and ended up finding what's described above and pictured by caribe. Cut the end of that nipple off and you can easily pass a wire through.

Thanks for the info, that's looking like the best option. After you passed the wire was the wire easy to reach inside?

It's been a couple years but I recall it being really easy to grab, yes. I believe it was just above the brake pedal.

I ended up using the upper boot that circled in the first picture or the one just below it to the right. I believe I passed something through the boot and wiring harnesses that were there that was fairly stiff, but would not hurt the wiring harnesses themselves. Once I got that throws able to pull the wires, it is an awkward position to try to reach up under there and get a hold of things though.

So I tried to thread the wire through the nipple (circled in red) but after about 2 inches the wire wouldn't advance any further. I ended up finding a grommet (circled in green) that's behind the black disk looking thing and threaded the wire through there. This took a while but it wasn't even the hard part. The hard part was retrieving the wire from the inside which came out behind the clutch pedal. I couldn't stick more than one finger in there but after lots of frustration, cursing, and battle scars I was able to fish it out. Not something I'd want to do again. Don't mind the dirt under the hood in the pic, I'll clean it after this project is done.

Oh man, sorry to hear that. My bad, I didn't realize you had a 3rd gen, I have a 2nd gen.

Now that you mention it I remember it being a pain but I thought that's because I was passing an RCA head through it for a camera. I recall using part of a metal coat hanger to get it through; I taped the RCA cable to the hanger, sprayed some wd-40 on it, and pushed it through.

No judgement on the dirt, mine's even worse. Here some pictures. It came out next to the e-brake which would be close to the clutch if I had a manual.

Pete2734 .... did you re-plug the hole. I removed plug behind master brake cylinder (the big black round thing/ LOL). So excited I got the wire thru , I forgot to put plug back. Now I can't find it. Ordered new plug (not sure of correct #) Now wondering is it worth replacing plug since location of hole shouldn't take in water.

I did not. I tried to, but the wire was too thick and the plug wouldn’t stay in place. Had no issues nor did I notice any problems so far.

I've pushed wires through almost every grommet hole in the firewall, and yes it's a PITA. When I fill up one hole with wires so thick nothing can get past I move to another.

Be sure to use wire loom to protect the wires from heat and crap. I also used a wire coat hanger from the inside and pulled the wires through from the engine bay, made it easier. Also, sometimes you push a wire through and it hits against something inside and you can't push it any more, then you have to get in the cab and use fingers to grab and yank. Total pain.

Finally, be sure there is ZERO chance that any loose wire can ever interfere with your pedals, and check every couple of months to make sure none have wiggled loose, this is life & death...

Thanks Pete2734.... The plug I bought was only $3, so no great loss. The placement of the wire behind the brake cylinder shouldn't become a water issue. It (the wire) has a nylon/synthetic cover. It covers much of the hole. Yeah! agree running wire is a PITA.power2Alpine.jpg Battery connection.jpg subwoofer control.jpg subwoofer install.jpg
