This is my 3rd gen Tacoma rearview mirror. Its got power and ground but I have no volt meter. Anyone know what wires to tap into for my dash cam? I bought a wiring harness with inline 5v regulator thing.. while I was looking for power I came across this and figured it would be best. Wouldn't be robbing much power from the rearview mirror at all

Anyone got wiring diagram and know for sure what colors correspond to what function?

There should be power, ground, and sensor (?)FB_IMG_1498623908477.jpg

Below is what the three wires connect to,

Beige - 12 volt ignition (only voltage when ignition is on, aka engine running)
    Blue - 12 volt constant
    White (w/Black) - Ground

    Good luck.

When you say 12v constant that means I could splice into that for always on power?

Thank you, trlove. I was also trying to find this out. I'm curious how you knew?
I just confirmed with a multimeter by cutting some short wires, plugging them into the connector and testing against those.

This is excellent news. I literally thought I was the only one who thought of this. Hooray for good ideas!

Unfortunately my wife took the wiring harness out of the truck, and we're out camping, so I won't be tackling this til I get home

What is that eerie twig sculpture like hanging thing from True Detective doing on your rear-view mirror?

My dash cam is now hard-wired and working :)
I decided to tap into these wires up inside the headliner (behind the roof console) for a cleaner install. I was surprised to find 5 wires though!

In addition to the blue, beige, and black/white wires there are two others, a reddish one and ANOTHER black/white one (identical to the mirror ground). I peeled back the tape at the T-junction and saw that the two extra wires keep going to the passenger sunshade / vanity mirror. I'm guessing either black/white wire would work as ground for my install but I still went with the one for the mirror just to be safe. And voila! Everything came out great!

I tested with my multimeter when installing a new mirror w/ homelink garage door buttons.

My wife loves hunting (more than me she claims) and she shot the smallest Bambi she could find just to take its antlers :D

This is awesome! Please post pictures. I was trying to figure out how to pull the headliner down... How is this done without wrecking it?

You don't really need to pull the whole headliner down, just the roof console box assembly. It's a little scary at first because you have to put some force into it, but it won't break. Once it's off you can see the wires that run to the mirror. I'll see if I can get some pics later.

You rock! Definitely can't wait to see the install pictures. I'm thinking of running a permanent USB-C charge cable to my GoPro as well, but not sure if I can just do the exact same thing as the dashcam cable or not. That's a very helpful video However! Thanks man

Post some pics when you get time please :D

Here you can see the wires going into the t-junction just above the mirror. If you cut the tape back far enough you can tell which three are for the mirror and which two are for the passenger's vanity mirror. Note, the black tape is mine just to keep them separate.

Here you can see I soldered my dash cam leads to the existing wires. My dash cam is actually a replacement mirror, so it was preferable for me to leave the original connector / (visible) wire untouched and tucked away in the liner so that I can put the stock mirror back someday.

Totally looked like peanut butter at first glance. I can't wait to take this when I get home!
