I remember Nissan had key pads on some models. My mother had a 91 Maxima with the keypad. I still remember the code start key 5513. Strange as that car was totalled in an accident nearly 20 years ago.

I always wondered why only Ford stayed with the keypad for so long. That Maxima had another feature that thankfully fell out of favor; automatic shoulder belts. I think Ford was another fan of those for a few years. My understanding is that they where a short term solution to the FDOT passive restraint requirement which was to promote airbags which in the late 80's where still very expensive.

So you're saying any of these 3 wires on the back side of the fuse block should unlock the doors when momentarily grounded?

Just took a quick look at the wiring location, but didn't have time to pull the lower dash and fuse block out to access the connectors shown above. Maybe this weekend.

Damn guys, I'm away from my computer for a few days and this thread has blown up! For now I just did a temporary/ghetto solution. I put my spare key fob in a ziplock bag and gorilla taped the shit out of it in a location that's fairly protected, hidden, and I can reach up under and press the unlock through the tape. It's pretty awesome and just makes me want an actual button even more.

I'm curious as well if this is exactly what he's saying.

Just tested the wire to ground as user mcnkl recommended. Worked perfectly. Most likely going to order a switch a pick out a hidden spot for this mod now

That's awesome! So just to be crystal clear, all you're doing is tapping into the green/black wire, running one side to a switch, and just grounding the other side?

Yup. Need a switch first though.

For a test I just hooked up a jumper to the green/black and tapped it to chassis ground. One tap opened the driver door. Two opened all doors

you need to post a write up for this.

even if you dont post where you located the switch, at least show pictures of what wire you tapped in, where you found it, how you wired it, etc..

A viper valet button is a small switch and can easily be hidden.

Exactamundo. While that may be the rarity for most folks who are key lockers, it's still a possibility that leaves you locked out. Especially for the cross country or deep woods types.

So old skool. And practical. And cheap. Where's the fun in that? But it is my personal solution as well.

My problem is my new alarm system. I need to hide the crappy backup key fob they gave me with a cut key somewhere and call it a day.

Have you followed through with this yet? I want to do it too but I'm waiting for a nice weekend when it's not raining or 1 million degrees outside.

This and the hidden key are both good solutions for different purposes. I may actually do both. The hidden key is clearly good for real "oops" situations, especially if it's a transponder key that works in the ignition.

But the remote unlock button would be great just like the Ford number pads (I loved those on my fords). Great for when you're camping or swimming or whatever and don't want to have keys with you, but also don't want to dig under the truck for a hidden key. If you're creative with your location, nobody would ever think twice that you had done it either.
