I can't remember the wire off the top of my head, i wanna say its white but i could be wrong. I put the truck in reverse and used a multi meter at the 7pin to determined which wire was hot when reverse was engaged. Uber simple and quick. The other option is to tap into one of the reverse wire at the one of the taillights.

Conveniently the pins are labeled inside the 7 pin if you flip the cap open, ie brake, reverse, ect. I just doubled checked w the multimeter to be sure.

I think I'm going this route instead of changing bulbs. The stock light set up casts bumper shadows that likely wouldn't be eliminated just more pronounced.

here is the pin-out of the 7 pin that came on my 014:
    Trailer Socket.jpg
the light was marked "Kawell" - came off of epay. the steel housing is a piece of 1-3/4 leg angle with a piece of 1-3/4 flat bar welded on to make a deep "channel" shape. its bolted on the bumper and the bracket that originally held the trailer socket.

You mean DMM? Or see which color wire goes to the reverse lights if you have neither test capability. I agree that mounted low is good though I would rather flush mount in the bumper than hang it lower to be torn off or damaged.

So does anyone know what the maximum safe total wattage/amps you can get from the reverse pin in the trailer plug would be? I have a 90watt LED light bar that I was thinking of sticking on a trailer hitch and actually plugging it into the trailer connection for removabĺe plowing light. Would the auxillary pin provide more power? I'd stick an inline fuse on the plug I would fashion for the light. Seems like too much to me. Running stock reverse lights now.

There is a single 10 amp fuse that feeds the back up lights and the turn signal flasher, so I'm guessing that adding another 6 amps is probably not a good idea. There is a 30 amp fuse that feeds the battery charge terminal in the trailer light connector. If I were doing it, I would do 7 pin connector>waterproof relay>LED light bar. Use the reverse terminal to energize the relay. Connect the relay contacts to the battery charge wire and to the light bar.

GM cars and trucks are a good source for waterproof relays. Go to the wrecking yard and open a few hoods. Chop out the wires, connector, and relay.

I recently did one on the bumper, need to do one on the other side. Wired to reverse light.

does anyone have a line on an led pod (flush or not) that is not the standard cool blue white, but more of a warm white (4500-5000k)?

Thanks for the info. Maybe I'll use this 9" bar somewhere on the front and either get a couple 18w cubes for the back...or maybe just an outdoor worklight, plug it into the bed 100W/400W outlet, screw it to a bracket on the bed rail and aim it out the back...I'm a sucker for simple.

I have two ebay flood light pods mounted on the rear bumper step, they wouldn't last long if they were mounted below the bumper. I put them on a separate switch and I'm glad I did, great for hooking up a trailer or lighting up behind the truck when you drop something, want to pack up at the end of the night, night time recovery operations, and navigating the campsite when you need to pee at 3am. As a counter argument, I feel like a mega dick when I use them to back up or when I offroad then forget to turn them off back on tar. Counter counter argument, when you got some dick in his ricer with HID's in his reflector housings tailgating you it's nice to be able to flip them on and give them a taste of their own lumens.

My switch is in the cab but I'm trying to work out a secondary switch for the bed. Not sure how to wire a DC half hot circuit though... May have to run power to switch and then switch back to original relay.

Stupid auto balance phone cammera doesn't do them justice, while the optic and spread isn't as nice as my rigids they are almost as bright. But that's why I have rigids up front and ebay in the back. 20170907_211531.jpg
