I'm both a newbie here and a new Tacoma owner. I have had an '06 since Aug 31. It has a SnugTop fiberglass shell. There is a brake light above the cap rear window and a dome light in the shell. I see two nylon plug connectors at the left rear of the bed. One powers the brake light. The other I assume is wired to the shell dome light.

Would I be correct in assuming these plug connectors are added by the installer of the shell? I find no reference to connectors in ay of the Toyota info / manual that came with the truck. The dome light is broken (all that'
s left is the base plate, no socket no switch) and there is no power at the connector.

I'll start trying to trace the wires but they do seem to disappear under the bedliner in the rear corner. haven't looked much yet. I thought I'd see if there is a usual method to power these things. I can't find a switch that might send power to the dome.

Any suggestions will be appreciated. I'll start my own hunt in earnest on the weekend.

Anytime fog mod, debadged, drop in k&n, smoked taillights, led inside and out,
For the dome light I got one of these

    http://www.truckoutfittersplus.com/store/topper_parts_dome_lights_brake_lights.htm#domelight

    (The led one)

As far as wiring, I just used a four prong trailer harness, *edit* one of these http://www.google.com/imgres?um=1&h...w=132&start=0&ndsp=16&ved=1t:429,r:0,s:0,i:82 the lead to the driver side tail light for the 3rd brake. (for quick disconnect)
then ran the lead for the dome ALL the way to the battery with a in line fuse.

Thanks for the link to the domelights. The second one down looks like the broken one... long and skinny. And that one looks a lot like the LED one you have.

Question for you... and I know this is hard to give a verbal reply to, at least one that means anything. How bright is the LED light? Bright enough to find anything in pitch blackness? The sellers of various LED lights all claim to be super bright, but I've seen some fairly dim ones.

    Thanks; MD

After switching the dome and map lights to led in the cab, I was a little disappointed at the output of this one. I would imagine it's still brighter than the regular one though. As far as seeing in pitch dark, it'll get the job done. I've been thinking about adding something like this http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAP...5199535&_trksid=p2042998.m1253#ht_3269wt_1378

    good luck

I was afraid it might be marginal. Here's what I'm thinking of giving a try. Page link is HERE Scroll down the page about 55% and look for "Rigid Loop 3 Watt"

Then further down at the bottom look for the Festoon Socket. I'm planning on adding the socket to the base plate and using the 3 wayy LED. 3 watts is pretty good going by what I've seen with some 1 watt flashlight conversions I have. I've never bought from those guys before. I'll do it in the next day or so and report back when I get it installed.

The Rigid Loop 3 Watt light has a very nice brightness. I'm happy with that. I don't like the connection tabs on the festoon socket as much though. The rigid loop LED does not fit it easily at all. I'm going to hardwire the LED instead of using the socket.
