Hello everyone. I want to install some KC led fog lights that have an Amp draw of 1.67a. Being such a small draw, do I need a wiring harness with a relay or can I wire it directly to the switch using a simpler wiring harness such as this one?

What is the switch rated for?

1+ amps is beyond most push button switches. Toggle switches or rockers may be rated for more but typically would not be used inside the cab. Which lights specifically? There may be an easier option if these are fog lights and your truck didn’t come with them.

They are KC LED Fog lights. I got an SR which doesn’t have them. But from what I read it seemed easier to just wire them to a switch inside the cab. I don’t have experience with wiring, so doing like this seemed simpler then going the “OEM” route.

Nitori fog light thread is your friend. I will try to find the link.

Personally, I like to use a relay on anything that goes in/out of the cab.
    Even more so on lights.

Use the OEM stuff, it’s likely pre wired for most of what you want. Add relay and switch per the instructions. 100% legit.

    It’s an old term.
Carried over from when the “ground” was literally the earth.

TLDR, I’d 100% do a relay if bypassing the stock stuff. But you already have a lot of the wires and the dash indicator is nice to have. I’d personally want the stalk. Disassembling things may feel daunting at first but if you take your time, lots of photos, use proper tools and bag and tag, it’s not scary. Anyone can do it. Just don’t rush.
