    Most economical plan is basically:
    1. Buy the light bar power harness
    2. Buy a custom switch
    3. Buy a cargo T (if putting custom switch in the driver cubby) for switch illumination
    4. Use add-a-fuse to poutlet1 or 2 to supply input juice to the custom switch
    5. Cut off the trigger to light bar harness relay and feed through the firewall then hook it up to the switch output.

Assuming the light bar has a harness with relays (good ones should have that option).

    Thanks for the response-
to better clarify my current situation-
I have a 30" Diode Dynamic light bar, with the DD harness which goes from unit, split to ground; split to power and relay from relay thru firewall, to a Cali left cubby switch, and currently power to battery- (from memory 3 month ago install)
looking to do better with the power side so it is powered when aux/or running engine active- but powered independent of low or high beam ..
did i explain so you can visualize the situation?
i am a civil/structural so clunky explaining electrical

    Pictures help better than words.

On the relay side, this is what it will look like.

Your light bar will go to the relay, and through the harness your relay will deliver power to your bar when it receives the trigger signal.

On your switch side, it will look something like this (Warning, colors are brand dependent, your wiring diagram may vary):

For this brand switch, Green is your power inlet, Red 1 is your trigger wire that feeds back to Relay pole #86.

Take the power inlet wire and tap it off of your P. Outlet No 2 fuse, as David mentions above. That fuse only powers on when the truck is on, therefore, your relay can only receive a trigger signal when the truck is on.

Attached two pics… the DD harness comes bundled up to the relay, from relay, splits… Power, ground and signal.
I have the signal to a cubby switch, ground to truck chassis and the power is improperly run to an add a fuse in the main engine compartment
Want best option for switched power… if it is through fire wall to accessory so be it, but can I grab similar circuit in the engine fuse tray?

thanks… I trust what ever you think best option…

Switch the Add A Fuse to INJ in the main fuse box. Where is the switch part?

So, in general, the advice would be

Power -- fused off battery terminal, can use MRBF or an aux fuse tray or RTMR or one of several options there.
Ground -- Use a ground stud in the engine bay, same as battery is great.
Signal -- Ensure this is active only when ignition is on by doing your custom switch as:

    Custom Switch input -- poutlet1
Custom Switch output -- Light Bar harness signal wire to relay
Custom Switch illumination -- switch illumination +
Custom Switch ill ground -- switch illumination -

Make sense? Exactly as Rock Lobster indicated

The trick is, ignition switched power feeds your custom switch which feeds the relay. Then no chance it comes on when ignition is off unless the relay is faulty and stuck closed (which would be a very unusual error).

Ignition switched power sources for the main power in the engine bay or otherwise are hard to find, most stuff in the truck is fused off constant power then to a relay which is controlled by signal logic which is ignition switched. Hence the ignition switched power demand is lower than it would be if all power to devices came off ignition switched power.

Can you make me a wiring system from the Diode dynamics stage series 30" light bar? The unit has a Deutsch type output connector. God knows i just want it right... with a 'keyed' power ?via relay? to the OEM type dash button on/of switch.
wiring diag. from DD - thought i did it spot on- but always on via battery vehicle on, or not- = dead battery

Yeah, trick is switch powered off ignition, as mentioned. In the cab that effectively means add-a-fuse. Cut off the DD harness and splice on a custom switch one. The only parts you need a little help with are switch illumination with kmorgan3 has covered.
