I took my whole entire dash apart.

Now that I'm reassembling it, I'm really struggling with the following connectors, all on the drivers side:

    1. This gray one at the steering wheel clock spring:

My truck is a 2005. I have an air bag and radio buttons and a horn button on the wheel, but I think they're already accounted for. What's this gray one for?

    2. This 2-pin white one up above the e-brake pedal:20200516_171504.jpg

    3. This 5-pin white one behind the interior fuse box:

My best guess is that #1 is unused and that 2&3 are for a trailer brake controller which I don't have, but I'd really like to get it right. This has been an absurdly complicated project!

Edit: We concluded that all three connectors can be left disconnected on my particular truck.

The 2 pin one too far in the pic to ID it...

yeah number one is for steering wheel controls, you can swap your wheel and clockspring for ones with steering wheel controls and add them.

Good question, I guess. But in short, I am trying to finish installing all the aftermarket electronics I want on this truck. Lights, radios, amplifiers, speakers, switch panels... rear view mirror dvr with rear camera... front and side spotting cameras. new fuse box under the hood... and replaced defective clock spring. Oh, and soundproofed the cab.

    20200511_030208.jpg

It's been an unmitigated disaster. But I have not had the dash fully assembled since the week after I bought this truck over two years ago. Trying to finally make it happen!

Any idea what this one does (S8)? I'm 99.9% sure there's nowhere to connect it on this truck.

    Thanks!

Huh I wonder if it has to do with cruise control.

That's the reason I'm replacing the clock spring. Cruise has never worked.

My wheel has the little cruise knob.

And it has the radio buttons.

All the radio buttons and the horn work, and no airbag light either.

Just never the cruise. I assumed it was a bad clockspring.

Maybe my truck doesn't have cruise after all? There's nowhere to plug this connector.

Solved purpose of #1. It is for a steering angle sensor, part of the vehicle stability control system.

    S9.jpg

My truck does not have VSC, so there is nowhere for this connector to connect.

Solved: #2 is connector C14, Cruise Control Clutch SW. My truck is an auto, so I assume this doesn't need to be connected. If cruise still doesn't work, I'm going to try jumpering this.

Lesson learned: Take note of unused connectors when taking things apart, of you'll go crazy trying to figure out how to reconnect them!

Thanks @caribe makaira for showing me that this information could be found in the wiring manual. I didn't realize there was a whole connector map hiding in there!

Edit: No, regardless of how the switch works (normally open vs. normally closed), it should not be jumpered on an A/T truck. That line to the ECU is driven instead by the P1 Park/Neutral Position SW.

    Wiring diagrams are neat!
