I found a post from a guy who put leds behind his emblem. qe4yqyna_076b64b183adb8a26be7ccbafe48bb50760308c0.jpg so i got all the parts i need, the switch i bought has 4 wires and i expected only 2. Im a novice at wiring so even with the provided instructions i dont know how to do it. Can anyone simplify these for me umy7yta8_5c11c67ce4eb3bd1a28e4583b5e2ff603c5ecfbd.jpg This is the switch se4eruma_7cea9dbb7e890fd861e8f0f76eece967b94c7e76.jpg

I'll try to help. The dash switch controls another switch inside the relay that in turn makes the lights go on. The black wire from the dash switch gets connected to a metal part of your truck (ground) usualy a screw behind the drivers kick panel is a good spot. The blue wire is connected to a positive wire that has power when the ignition is turned on like the cigarette lighter and powers the light that is in the switch to indicate that the switch is on or off. The red wire connects to pin 86 on the relay it is the wire that makes the switch in the relay turn on and off. The green wire is connected to the positive lead of your choice. If you only want the switch to work when the headlights are on you need to splice the green wire into that circuit if you want the switch to work independant of the headlights you could tap into the cigarette lighter circuit where you connected the blue wire. Now you just need to connect the 30 pin of your relay to the positive terminal of your battery, the 85 termnal to ground and the 87 terminal of the relay connects to the positive terminal of your light. The negative terminal of your light is connected to ground. The relay handles the power required to light up the driving light or whatever so the switch in the dash doesn't burn up. Hope that helps.

I don't think you need a relay if all you're using switch for is the front emblem LEDs, not much power draw at all

LED lights are directional meaning they will only light if you get the positive and negative connected correctly. So if it doesn't light up reverse the wires and it should work. Incandesent lights can be hooked up either way and will light up. If you do not use the relay then you would just connect the red wire from your switch to the positive terminal of the LED and the negative terminal of the LED to ground. I am not responsible for any damage caused by following any of this advice.

Okay, at first i was just planning to wire it to the battery and up to the switch because i thought the switch would either have two wires or just the connectors and now my plans changed due to the 4 wires

Ohh, alright, I think it'll be fine with relay in, just a little more wiring, but it is safer

The fuse tap is a good idea especially if you don't use the relay. It would be used to connect the green wire to +12v.

You could probably get this done at just about any stereo shop.

Damn my small town probably has an abundance of those, are there any chain stereo shops that could do it that you know the name of?

The blue and black wires are just used to illuminate the switch. So at it's simplist you connect the negative side of your LED to ground and connect the green wire to the positive side of the battery and the red wire to the positive side of the light. Push the button and the LED light goes on. Is that the type of circuit you were expecting? Now if you want the switch to light up connect the black wire to ground and the blue wire to positive side of battery. To answer your question someplace like a Best Buy could do the work.

Just keep in mind if you use a direct connection to the battery and leave the switch on you could drain your battery. Leaving it on overnight could cost you a battery. Also a inline fuse in the positive lead from the battery to the switch would be a good idea.
