    Hi
First post so hello everyone! :)
Couple months ago I got my first Tacoma, 2023 model. $39k for SR, V6 4x4... South East region :( But hey, I love this truck already!
SR version doesn't have dimming mirror so no power source there. I want to install dash cam and I struggle with choosing wiring option. Basically there are few options I found here on this forum
    1) over head source - I think I don't want to go that route. From what I remember it's 12v, always on and people add switches/hacks to make it work
    2) hard wired to fuse box - done that way my other cars and it is working great. The only reason I am little bit concerned is I have this weird thing I am unable to reassembly panels correctly and I always hear rattling here and there. I am weird and very sensitive for any unexpected noises in new cars.
    3) that plastic piece next to mirror where safety computer sits.

If I cannot pick option 3, I will just hard wire it but I want to hear your opinions on one thing - For the mirrors with dimming option there are adapters that split power. All of them say it is only for dimming mirror, not for safety computer source. All good, but there is Fitcamx slick cam which connects to that safety computer. So, why can't I just use Dongar adapter to that computer? Is it because they have different plugs/wiring or just company's safety policy to not mess with safety systems?

    Please advise.

Check out FitcamX. I just installed it in my Tacoma. Replaces the case of the TSS that’s behind the mirror on the windshield.

I used to have 2 the same cameras in my other cars. I just sold one vehicle and I salvaged the camera. I was using both of them around for 5 years and they have never failed so why to change.

I'm still rocking my old Spytec G1W-C going strong 8 years. I just have the cable tucked into the headboard and routed under the dash to the cig lighter power supply. if you're worried about creaks and rattles, you need to upgrade your Audio system haha.
Hardwired to the fuse box would be ideal

Used the rear view mirror Dongar power adapter with a VIOFO A129 dash cam. Installation took about 15 minutes if that. More here:

One downside is that it's ignition-on powered, so if you want to have parking surveillance, impact monitoring, etc., you'll need to hardwire it.

You can purchase an insert to your cigarette lighter socket that makes it a dual socket so you won't loose an outlet. There are plenty of ways to hid the wire. I am going with a Nextbase. It has a parking monitor already installed so you do not have to hardwire a constant on.

I went with your option 2, hardwired into the fuse box. The Viofo A129 uses an always on and an ignition on so the camera knows what mode to be in (per Viofo Tech Support).

Both of those are available in the driver side panel by your left foot. From there it’s up the A pillar to the mirror area, and the wire can be easily tucked under the headliner without having to remove it. Only two panels and really no way to screw it up.

Where are you? Maybe somebody close by that lend a hand for a beer or two.

I just ordered a hardwire kit. I have done it with 2 other cars so I know how to do that, I just don't like to remove those panels. I am located in Raleigh, NC area.

I understand the reluctance, I’m the same, the Tacoma is the first new vehicle I’ve ever owned.

If I remember correctly, there is one 10mm bolt that holds the A pillar trim on located behind a small cover.

Replaced the stock tweeters with DS18s a few months ago (PNP - BIG improvement) which required pulling the pillars (more here). They come off and go back on easily. A set of inexpensive trim tools and you're good. Careful not to force anything to avoid breaking any clips and you'll be golden. Also be sure to put the wire to one side of the air bag or the other. ;) Lots of YT DIY videos.
