I have a 2011 Tacoma and I upgraded my stock radio with an aftermarket unit. I started removing the stock unit and I noticed a cluster of wires spliced in the trucks OE harness very close to the connectors.i removed all the extra wires and connected everything back to stock as best I could. New radio is installed but I hear a cracking sound when I turn it up slightly. I've been told it's a ground problem but how do I know which wire to look for in the harness? There are several black wires in the 3 different connectors. Can I get a new OE connectors with leads so I have room to get more wire to splice in?

Toyota sells "theft kits" for their vehicles however I've never needed one for a second gen. Theft kits come with any necessary brackets, screws, and wiring harnesses with about 8" of wire coming out of the plugs.

Thanks! I might just go that route. Just so I know that connections would be better.

With the stock radio I used an aux cord. The new head unit is Bluetooth and I have the adapter box for it.

Ok, so are you using BT or Aux?

I’m asking cause an aux being bent at a certain angle while plugged makes a scratchy noise sometimes or sounds like a speakers blown..
