So I recently got some Rough Country LED Pods with DRL. They come with a 3 way switch that of course doesn’t fit into the OEM spot. I was wondering if I could somehow wire the DRL feature for the LEDs to come on with the DRLs of the truck and then have a switch if I want to turn in the flood light function?

Working on this for @ljh824 and awaiting his harness. Once I receive it I plan to modify but I could just build a completely independent version. One wire needs to go through the firewall and will connect inside the cab with a bullet connector.

Thanks guys. I didn’t know if I could just tap into my DRL fuse but I see from research there is a relay. Also didn’t know how I could cut feed to the line when I switch to leds. Was thinking maybe wire to DRLs and then keep the three toggle switch. Keep it turned on for DRLs and won’t have to worry about turning off when I leave the truck. If I need the fog lights then I can just switch to them.

I can hook you up. Take a photo of the connector feeding the lights and post up here. Hopefully it is the same.

The switch they give is lame and looks lame, no point in doing that.

Relay signal modifications are needed to accomplish what you want. Also it's likely you want DRL and parking lights to keep the amber on, and white on pushbutton? I've given Lou two different pieces in the middle, one for just DRL (amber off when parking lights on matching the DRL circuit logic) and one to combine the two and keep amber on with parking light. Then when the switch fires, the amber drl shuts off.

It's unclear what would happen with both +'s active at the same time to the lights, would they both show and you'd have white + amber? The switch they designed eliminates that possibility, hence the desire to retain that level of integrity.

Yep, that's the mod on the relay side, though caribe's contribution was making the switch connect ground instead of power since the cargo connector has illumination and ground so it makes everything simpler. Minor mod on the top relay to handle that, same effective design.

I prefer working with the (+) side as opposed to the (-). The only harness necessary on my drawing would be Plug-N-Play for the Tap vs a vampire clip.

The connector which feeds into the lights themselves please, not the one feeding the switch. Interesting, though, that is has 4 pins, I was expecting 3.

@caribe makaira you have good eyes, deutsch after all. I will order some triangle 3 pin deutsch and I think I can make the entire harness without needing anything from you. One lone question remains, though, identifying the pinouts. One is a ground, that should be easy enough to deduce based on wire color. The other two are positives and would turn on either the backlight or the flood. If you can provide that identification that would be fantastic. You'd want to be very careful and use a bench power supply or lead from your 12v battery, just be super careful with that to not short anything.

I'm guessing black is ground, blue is backlight and white is flood but that's all total guessing. You could also probe it while it's all connected and see which wires go live when you use the switch to turn things on and off.

Also, is the light side male or female?

Assuming Lou sends me his I can do dimensions off that but if you want custom dimensions then drawing out a diagram is probably the next step. You can leave the relays as a black box and the switch as well, that can just be the "magic" if you want, or you can use the diagram above and a t square and protractor if you really want to :)

I'm thinking 5/16 or 3/8 rings for the battery and ground, maybe 12-24" long to the relays, then 12-24 from relays to the lights and 48 ish from relays through the firewall to the switch? Total guesses there.

@caribe makaira Ha I wish, that's how it came from Rough Country
@daveeasa The light bracket is the female side (grey plug) and the harness to the switch and battery is the male side (orange plug). There actually aren't any relays on the plug. The white, blue, black run to the switch from both sides, and then red runs from the battery, to a fuse terminal, to the switch. I couldn't find my meter this am so went to get a new one and will draw up a schematic.
