Wiring Rough Country Light Pods with DRL to turn on with DRL lights

Oh wow, low budget, they send high current through the switch on this harness? That's not best practice.

I say we build you a brand new harness? I can basically make two of the one I'm doing for Lou as I ordered 3 pin deutsch connectors. That and the power and ground are the only non-plug-and-play touchpoints needed.

 

Old school, 20 amp switch vs 3 amp (maybe) of what everyone else is installing.

 

So blue=flood and white=DRL

 

Perfect.

So, looking at the face of the female with clip on the bottom which as I understand is the connector feeding the light bar, can you confirm:

Bottom Right == black == ground
Bottom Left == blue == white lights (flood)
Top == white == amber lights (DRL)

The only info left to gather would be the lengths from battery to relay mounting, from relay mounting to light bar connector, and from relay mounting to the firewall + enough length to reach the driver side cubby (assuming that is the desired installation location).

I believe I have all the parts I need on order or in stock so I'll get started on two of these as I think it'll be the same exact one for Lou, then you can use any switch you want.

would this be similar to wiring the Diode Dynamics SSC2 ditch lights into the drl since they have the backlight option as well?
been waiting on mine as they’ve been on back order but been trying to figure out a way for the backlight to come on with DRL as well

 

I think so, yes.

 

Easy install. Accidentally switched the red leads on the switch and it stayed lit and only floods worked. Switched back around and switch doesn’t light up unless in mode and now DRL and led work.

 

Those are the DRLs. Again no relay for either install
@daveeasa I can get you a schematic for this one also if you don’t mind making a harness if possible. And please let me know what I need to do to compensate you for your time and materials!

Seriously. I talked to numerous brick and mortar "experts" here in the area, and even called Rough Country, with no luck linking the DRLs in the LED bar, with the truck. Not only did @daveeasa figure it out, but the harness and connectors he built were better than factory. Now my LED DRLs come on automatically with the truck, and i have full control of the LED bar when I need it. I couldn't be more pleased and impressed with the work. This was something I thought just couldn't be done.

OK, just to be super clear on this, the replacement harness would have this connector:

 

Do you have your backlights tapped into your DRL circuit? I’m currently looking for information on how to do this. I have the ssc2 ditch lights as well with the 4-pin wiring harness. Just not sure how/where to splice and tap.

 

i never got it figured out i ended just running th 3 position switch for the ssc2 and the dsim rock light harness

 

The issue with them lamps is that it's either one circuit or the other. As in you need to turn off the input to DRL circuit of the light when switching to illumination circuit.
So if you tap the DRL to be in parallel with the added lamps, you'll need a way to turn OFF the DRL input when selecting illumination circuit.

 

@Zumozuzu7 how about an update on this thread? All is well? It's been a while and I know we had some back and forth there at the tail end.

 

Any way I can get some help from ya @daveeasa ? I have same exact light setup as OP and like a harness to to be able to run this switch in picture. I'd like the DLR to run off the "driving light" switch and my ditch lights off the "led light bar " switch. Is this possible?
