I really need to sit down and look at Gaia maps more. I finally figured out how to add the MVUM to the map layers and see road open/closed dates.

I'll look at the MVUM while I'm on "vacation" today. I think it could be fun to incorporate some of the side trails you and I have discussed.

I have been through the middle section of the T.W.A.T twice. It goes through some beautiful country, but nothing challenging. A lot of the roads in that area seem like they probably don't get maintained so the most interesting Factor would be deep, packed snow on some of the roads.

I wonder if the mvum Maps would be compatible with Gaia or not? If not, avenza is a good app for using them.

Gaia has the mvum maps incorporated, just have to turn on the layer.

I just picked a road as an example.

Im not sure I know what Im seeing there. Are those roads that show up on the maps the “open roads” for this date?

All the roads show up all the time and when you click on the road it shows the use restrictions

Would be sweet if you could pick a date and only the allowed roads would show.

@jstemp did you download the MVUM into Gaia? Or, is it already in there and you just had to click on that layer? I'm trying to find it on mine right now and I can't seem to.

Its already in there just have to turn it on. Go into Layers then more layers and just search for mvum.

edit: It's under in the feature/weather overlays category if the search doesn't find it

I'm in for a trip on either the 22nd or the 29th. Either the T.W.A.T or pipeline sounds good.
I'm also up for some winter camping if anyone is interested.

I found it, just need to play with it a bit more. This is a bit of a game changer. Definitely the feature I was looking for.

Looks like camping is available in Black River, Wildcat, and Buckhorn if we decide to do the T.W.A.T and end in Sparta.
Nothing that I can see near the Pipeline. Just throwing it out there. I'm good with whatever.

@Thatbassguy what was the location of "Murder Hornet Hill" wanted to find it in Gaia. I didn't have any mapping set up on the outings I joined, so no clue where anything was.

You thinking about taking a ride? ;)

I'm off work this week. I'm half tempted to go for a drive one of these days. I'm curious what it looks like up in those woods this time if year.

    Looking forward to the 29th!

Not necessary, just wanted to take a look on Gaia. I do want to go for a ride but not by myself this time of year. At least until I get my winch in...

I'm also looking forward to the 29th! I hope we get just a little snow cover but not enough to hide a big rock lol.

Anyone using GAIA and other mapping apps-

It's a good idea to double check things on the actual MVUM maps. I just looked on GAIA and it says the Pipeline opens May 1, but the MVUM says 6/1. I'm not sure why there's a discrepancy, but it's worth noting.

Another thing I noticed is that there is a track someone recorded in the Pipeline area that goes through a trail that I can't find any information about. It's off Butler Rock Road between 1605 and 1612. As far as I can tell, it's a service road for the power lines. But, there's no information about access to the public that I can find.

hmmm.. Yeah, I see the discrepancy. Wonder why that is? Is one map older then the other and there was a change? :notsure:
But am I reading correct on the actual MVUM that track 5552 (Pipeline) is open untill 3/14?

That's correct. It seems like it's closed for the spring thaw.

I have no idea where they get the 5/1 opening date from. It's been 6/1 as long as I've been paying attention. :notsure:

Seems about right. I wonder what it will look like in 3 weeks.

    I did PM the location.
