I knew there was a reason I liked you. I also spent an inordinate amount of my adolescent life in the pit orchestra...

Yup, well... not today. Got to use 4 lo and the locker twice! That is a fruckin great day. Got up a hill that has thwarted me for several years now. Ha! Take that. Also found some trails I had never been on before. Fantastic! @McSpazatron kinda hurt me so I went into the Barrons and did some deeper recon. Haven't found the winch day yet, but we can make a day of it over there next year for the Bayfield trip.

Interesting recovery. I didn't expect the tow driver to try to pull it sideways. Although that looked like a good way to debead a tire. Something to keep in mind for for the future if we need to pull someone out of a spot.
How not to move, regarding the recovery? Or how she ended up in the ditch in the first place?

The recovery seemed a bit sketchy, pulling all that weight from the tires. Plus the nonchalance of working so close to loaded cables. I'm surprised the tow driver didn't insist in keeping them further back.

On the note of recovery's. With the snow earlier this week I came across a coworker stuck hard in the ditch. As much as I wanted to help her out there was no way to safely preform a recovery without additional assistance stopping traffic. She was down between two hills one of was a blind hill and the roads were all ice. Anyone coming over that hill wouldn't be able to stop in time.

Sometimes it's best left to the pro's. She ended up calling the sheriff and they were able to block off the road while the wrecker did it's thing.

Smart move. Few years back when I was driving snow plows, one of my roads had a guy in a lifted ram using a tow strap to try and do a kinetic recovery of a Jeep out of a ditch in front of a house. Blocking the whole road. At first I waited a few minutes and then I got out and told them that I had a lot of experience with these matters and that the tow strap gig would work a lot better if he ran it out to its full length. That way the Jeep wouldn't hit his truck. So he backed his truck to the other side of the road. Ran the strap except I got in my truck a lot. Faster plow down spreader on blue right through them late on the air horn. The way they were going on they were going to get somebody killed in front of a house. Blind turn as well. But I guess with me plowing the snow and using the salt spreader by the time I got to the end of that road 8 mi later turned around and came back. The road was melting and both vehicles were gone. So... Guess it worked

Some Penokee mud today! Took the wife and we explored a section down below Upson that we haven't been to. Took bikes and did a small (but difficult) loop up to the remains of the Pleasant Lake Fire Tower.

    IMG_0763.jpg

Kinda sad, because my fellow humans suck. Left the truck on a small pullout. Locked up and out of the way. We were gone most of an hour; but... somebody tried to steal my winch and recovery gear. Fuckers had it off the bed rail (clearly had a 9/16 wrench/ratchet with them) and everything piled nicely for extraction. We must have interrupted, or they went to get a bigger UTV. Fuckin fuckers! Lots of ATV/UTV traffic up there with hunters. Hate to think they were locals... Easier to hate on out of towners; however, we were not in a place that most would find. I wondered about the fresh ATV tracks that followed us out to the gate that I spied when we were riding back in... People seem to just suck.

That's really unfortunate, but glad to hear you didn't lose anything. You can run into bad apples anywhere.

Was great seeing everyone and having a few adult beverages! Food, beers, and conversation was all good. Enjoy playing with those extrusions @Thatbassguy and @McSpazatron .

Dang man that sucks, some people are just trash like that. Might be a good idea to get a full front bumper and hard mount that winch for security. You can hard mount a rear winch too where your old spare was. Just here to help buddy.:spending:

The flatbed will help-things will be more "hidden" and less obvious. Front bumper is coming... and not a bad idea to have winches everywhere-A fact @Supr4Lo should take into account if he ever gets back in the trees....

Glad we figured out why you have a positive opinion of me, you know, all the truck stuff aside. :D What instrument(s) did/do you play? I started playing violin when I was 7 and was first chair 3 of my high school years. I had a lot of fun with those weirdos. Still have a violin, but haven't picked it up in a while.

Started violin and piano in 3rd grade. Moved to Bass in 6th. Played through HS. Went to Europe after I graduated and played in a Finnish Conservatory for a bit and then the professional orchestra in Oulu. Traveled all through northern Europe and Scandinavia for most of a year. Came back to the states and never played again...
