Maybe I need to try it more. I'm a paper map guy anyways. I use electronic maps to navigate but I use paper maps to find where I want to go. Paper maps give me the quickest big picture of the area and then I use free maps.me to navigate to where I want to go. I keep it simple and that hasn't failed me yet. But maps like the MVUMs are invaluable for knowing current road openings and closures and such.

I used Avenza a few weeks ago when I went trout fishing. I downloaded the county trout waters maps and entered them into Avenza. When I came to a stream crossing I looked on Avenza to see where I was and what stream it was and the classification of the waters.

I don't believe there's one tool that does it all. Even in a place like Utah we used paper maps first, then digital. Unless you have everyplace you want to go already marked in your GPS and just follow that, but that's not really exploring.

I use Avenza quite a bit for work. It’s certainly very useful for what it does. It’s nice that I can make my own maps for it. :anonymous:

I tend to download sections of map on Google maps for offline viewing. Then, I use Avenza maps to view the MVUM. I tend to switch back and forth.

Can you overlap multiple maps with GAIA?

I used Gaia this past run on the Pipeline and the record function only worked for half the trip. The trails we were on weren't clearly marked on the maps, either. So either I'm not using it right, or it doesnt work great. I can't give decisive answers yet. I'll give it a round two before I complain, but so far it failed to impress.

I think you need to download the MVUM or forest service maps. I noticed the same thing, and also it was showing me roads that were closed according to the MVUM.

    how's the sand, everybody?

I'm not sure how your frames are constructed for proper drainage of foreign substances, but i was underneath with a rag & wd40, hand cleaning up the stuff that refuses to get gone with the undercarriage wash (5x I have been through the touchless and it won't come off!) and have not had a real good rain here yet to naturally wash it off just driving around
so after i made my way to the rear and stuck the finger in the hole all i felt was sand and it was plugging up the smallest drain hole
now i will have to figure out how to rig up my power shopVac with a funnel on the nozzle and a flexible hose to fit the side holes and suck all that out before winter, hopefully I also vacuum out enough loose paint chips as well to properly interior coat it with some Eastwood product I recently found to be acceptable
i am still on the hunt for a proper bore scope that I can take a good peek inside with fine resolution to see where all these paint chips have been delaminating

perhaps if i had this particular hole drilled out a bit bigger that could work

that's my recently power coated fuel tank shield/skid that is nice and black, there is sand all up in that too lol
i will be interested to see how that item holds up in the winter now, they can get real nasty over time

    '97 frame hole clean open.jpg
this pic was taken before the adventure, and that hole is now plugged with sand that washed back
there could also be some sand from the sandblaster as well as I did clean a couple holes (the outsides) to the front of this area and sand was flying everywhere lol

A touch less car wash doesn’t even clean off all the bug guts on the front of a vehicle and you expect it to clean out what’s built up underneath your truck?

Pressure washer or even a car wash that you get out and do yourself is way more effective than sitting in one of those touch less things. Those are only really good for cleaning off dust lol. There are also nozzles for pressure washers specifically for cleaning underneath your vehicle.

unfortunately the monthly car wash package did not include that!
i even asked them because i like that method better, its what i have always used until this past year
mostly for the spot-free rinse because my garden hose puts out the hardest of water spots, and i mean hard!

Have you tried parking in the river for a thorough cleaning? With all the rain lately, it should be no issue getting a thorough deep cleaning
