Looks like we'll need that truck raft after all......

It adds another half hour going up to La Crosse. I'm not opposed to experiencing more of the The Great River Road National Scenic Byway. Of course that'll cut into play time by Potosi.

Crossing at Prarie du chein is still a possibility. It just removes the nice section of river road going north at the usual start to the trip. There might even be some new roads you can try on the way north on the Iowa side. Detours are just another word for fun! ;)Too bad I’m going to miss the season’s kickoff.

Added a Carista OBD to ALF tonight. Got rid of the annoying seat belt chimes, (the dog activates it) turned off the lock/unlock blinkers and beeps and I can now roll the windows down using my FOB. Sadly there is no roll-window-up mode. Also set the doors to stay locked when it's put in park.

    Thanks for the heads-up!

As mentioned already, we could just head upstream on the Iowa side instead. Or, we could start in Galena and work our way north.

Another option would be to ditch the T.W.A.T altogether and explore some back-roads along the lower Wisconsin River.

IIRC, @McSpazatron and a few others found some fun stuff on the way home from Wyalusing last spring.

    I'm open to other ideas.

You haven't already? I think you are falling behind the curve, and by curve I mean the logarithmic falling of your credit score.

The area around Bosobel I’ve driven through was very scenic. Plenty of valley type gravel roads. I think @wi_taco discovered a few gems there if I recall. Even if it’s not the day’s entertainment, it’s definitely worth considering as the “long way” route to Wyalusing. Especially for a group meeting up to convoy out there. I only found the area based on a a gaia “wisconsin overland route” that @Pixeltim shared with me last year.

I would be ok with starting in Galena just because I have actually not done that section of the T.W.A.T. The Iowa side is actually my favorite part and I'm sure we could find some more interesting roads out that way as well.

Other than that Ranch Road monkey business I do think there are a few decent spots along the way, but most are probably the gravel parts before our convoy broke away in Boscobel. Don't recall exactly where it was, but that spot where it was me, you, and Dean on the sloppy gravel roads where the river flooded over that picnic area - that whole section was neat. Another interesting spot much further east where I took those glamor shots next to the log piles but lots of boring road driving in between.

I didn't go down all the way to Galena, but for the same reason you stated I did go to the state line in Hazel Green on the "official" TWAT route that I had saved in Gaia last year after we broke off from Potosi Point. Frankly that part is pretty boring. I finished at the Historical Marker 172: The Point Of Beginning which has a small parking lot but would probably be hard for us all to fit there at once. Not a super exciting spot, just a couple history signs.

I was just gonna tell you guys that the bridge is going to be closed but you are all over it. Doesn’t sound like it will be repaired in time. Sucks because they are building a new bridge right next to it but that thing won’t be done till like 2025 or something
