As mentioned, that's the weekend after Tigerton, so there's no conflict there.

I'm not necessarily interested in becoming a club. I prefer keeping things casual.

I'll support anyone who wants to help out with anything related to trail building, maintenance, etc. Like Brian, I have mixed feelings about traveling to build trails I may never use.

I'm curious what the work is like. Are you clearing/trimming trees? Moving boulders/excavating?

Excellent questions (especially if one doesn’t have a facebook).

All of this is interesting, with some real interesting possibilities. This group has already created a few animals that probably wouldn’t mind joining a club and getting in on the trailblazing action.

To Brian’s point, I wonder if that club travels, or are they local to the Bayfield area.

I firmly believe in the teachings of Marx, so I guess that makes me a Marxist.

I refuse to join any club that would have me as a member.

Clearly I do not know how to read the calendar correctly as I see it marking the weekend prior. Anyway. The work is clearing brush and some rocks that cannot be safely gotten over. No chainsaw work unless you have taken a certification class.
If to come for the Bayfield weekend I may be able to get it opened for us to use…. Never say never

I will admit that communication is hard with any and all 4 wheel groups in this area. Period. Based on my personal experience. WC4WD is a lobbying voice for clubs. They are not a club as I understand the term. They do the work (physical, legal etc.) so the clubs can play. I reached out on their Facebook page and got a response from the person putting on the workday(s) I did join the WC4WD as I see what they are doing as important and I want to be involved. My personal choice. You do not have to be a member but can still come and work and ride the results.

Restrictions on the trails are the responsibility of the property owner(s) not WC4WD. In this case the owner wants to create a 4 wheel drive park as I understand it. Seems it will be exclusive to clubs who want to put on events and such. I thought I heard no UTV's!!! Not the same format as Tigerton. This place will have trails from beginner to extreme buggy-more like what those who went to SMOR experienced although not open directly to the public (initially???)

The “no UTV” stance sure gets my attention!

Arrived home about 9:30 last night. Gawd, is it hot here. Five, 10 hour days on the road and we are beat. Total mileage was 8797 and total time driven is 179:08. This was a trip we have wanted to do for a long time. The highlights were seeing the 3 grizzlies while hiking in the 400 yd wide open river bed, while we were 200 yds away from the bank, then seeing the video of the same bears waddling past our camp 2 1/2 hours later while we were in camp. The boat ride was a very close 2nd and then the plane ride to Denali. My buddy wore a knit Packers hat when it was cold and that hat opened a few opportunities that we wouldn't have otherwise had. Like getting 600 year old glacier ice that was scooped up from the sea. The 1st mate was a Packer fan and gave us that special treat because of that hat.

So refresh my memory, who actually owns this land?

Our local mountain bike group who advocate for trails have a stance on teaming up with anyone who has private trails that could be gatekept as paid trails. They have a few exceptions such as trails on state park or county park land (which require a trail pass).

I echo a similar concern. While I am interested in the idea, more logistical info would be helpful. Im not on facrbook either. We are being asked to volunteer on trails we may rarely ride, on possibly private property that will have limited access and someone will be charging users to ride on?

Rock moving, where is the equipment coming from/supplied by? You also mention needing a chainsaw certification, but is someone actually checking that/ will people need a certification to run machinery(if you have them like skid steers).

I have not been there. But I have seen some videos and it's one of the things I would want to do if I ever go out west.

I went last summer. It was beautiful. Also did Engineer pass. Spent an extra long time up at the top of both passes, just listening and looking. I went over Cinnamon Pass, but it was dark and couldn’t see much.

I’m pretty sure that the drive is not any more spectacular or dangerous than what you’ve already seen and driven. There are a few places you don’t want to make mistakes. And as always when driving in mountains that high, you always gotta watch out for the weather turning bad, quickly.

I went in late July last year. Sometimes those roads don’t open till early July depending on how long it takes the snow to melt or get cleared off.

Sounds like you’re planning a trip???

See above. We all signed waivers and only those who had passed a certified chainsaw course ran saws. Sledgehammer and rock were fair game. Queries about larger equipment would have to be made with WC4WD.
