I was planning along similar lines and picked up a few backpack meals.

I treated myself and bought a real soldering iron when I did mine. I’ve been struggling with the same crappy low wattage radio shack one since H.S.

less chance of a branch knocking it down if it’s welded on! ‍

I started with one, and I can hear people fine, but my range for responding was limited, so I invested less than $200 and got a full-length antenna and cabled it back through my sliding window, under the rear seats, and into the CB. For once my PTT recieve AND send pass the signal strength test.

I still need to tune it, though...

What kind of antennas are you using that require soldering?

Also, I totally agree that a decent soldering iron is worth every penny! I bought a nice one a few years back for soldering LED tape lights at work and it's so much better. Now I also have the Milwaukee M12 soldering iron.

The cable I used doesn't have the Pl-259 connector pre-attached which makes it easier to run through the vehicle including the existing hole in the back wall of the cab.
It's the center conductor that required soldering.

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EARXF06/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s02?ie=UTF8

Surprisingly 18' of cable just made it to the front of the console.

Aha, nice! I may need a cable like that if I ever do a proper installation. :D

We're getting settled in at Wyalusing.

Sites 141, 142, 143. There are many available sites nearby as well.

Anyone showing up this afternoon/evening can text me or call @ (414) 687-7816 and let me know your ETA. We might go dick around in the area for a bit, but I would like to be here to greet others.

    The view is fantastic!!

You got the money site right there!

I'll be there after 7 sometime. I gotta stop at Cabelas for some fuel for the camp stove and probably some other stuff I don't know I need until I see it. If anybody sees me west bound on i-94 or Hwy 18 can reach out on Ch 19.
