I have spend a number of years around the area if you have any questions.

I know Mountain is the closest town to Boulder lake campground and they have a gas station and a bar with food for sure in town. The closest Grocery store if you are looking for Food supplies is in Coleman Wi, probably about 30 mins out from the campground, but if you are planning on coming later in the evening I believe the close early(8pm).

    Thank you!

Also Langlade has a big gas station/convenience store.

And there's a Walmart and pretty much anything else you could need in Antigo, about 35 minutes from the campsite.

These trails shouldn't break stock 4x4s right? Not looking to bounce off rocks or need a snorkel. Not ready for any body armor....yet haha

If this is going to be a beer thing, I can probably find some decent ones to contribute to the cause.

My wife already said “you won’t park at the grocery store because you don’t want door dings but you’ll drive in thick brush on a off-road trail?”

    I'm basically stock.

There are different types of terrain up there. Ranging from gravel and sand to small boulders and mud pits.

There is definitely a real chance of getting some trail rash. Many of the trails are thin and have brush along the sides.

Hey, now! You already know where my 4runner has been.

It was new in January and has about 5 million scratches. Still looks good from 20'.

    :itllbuffout:

We can't pick on others for wanting to keep the paint nice, though.

I just want everyone to be warned so that they can decide whether to come through the trails.

I have a silky saw. I actually need to pick up another one. That thing is amazing.

I’ve been considering wrapping the tundra... then it’s all protected. Plus white is kinda boring

I'll have mine ceramic coated by then - curious how it would hold up.

There are a lot of down trees from the recent storms. I will have a chainsaw in case something large is blocking the trail.

Otherwise the silky saw should do the job.

One of the sections that I did last year was pretty overgrown when I checked earlier this summer. I'm hoping to make it through in September, though.

I'm hoping to make a day trip up there again before the camping trip and see what's clear enough to pass through, so I can have a better plan. I don't want us to have to keep turning around or backing out of places.

If there's a down tree, we can move it, otherwise we drive through it.

It's not our trail to trim

Something that we need to keep in mind: if the trail is blocked by a fallen branch or tree, we can move it.

Live trees, ETC, can not be cut. We either try to sneak through and live with the scratches, or turn around/take another route.

These trails require no permit. They are free for us to use, as is.

There are a lot of areas where the trail is wide enough to not be rubbing on the brush. If I get up there before this trip, I will make a note of the best and worst areas. Then, everyone can choose to pin-stripe or take a different route.
