It is far better to be overly cautious and careful than to just send it and break things or get unnecessarily stuck. People that go through things with the mindset of "I have recovery gear to get me out if things go wrong" are of the wrong mindset in my opinion. The goal should be to never have to use recovery gear because you took the best and safest line through things. The recovery gear is for when things go wrong or the unexpected happens. I would rather spend my time driving my truck instead of half a day trying to recover it because I did something dumb....not that I've ever done that before. :anonymous:

Exactly. Or when you have to figure out a way forward. Sometimes turning back isnt really feasible.

Don’t wanna get my hands dirty. My plan is it’s staying in the bag and the bag is staying on the floorboard!

Because you should always wear gloves when handling straps and winch lines. They pick up plenty of stuff or fray and then you get stabbed.

Handling ropes or ESPECIALLY cable = glove time

"no glove, no love" or something like that but more truck related

Fray might not be a the right word, yes if it’s damaged dispose of it. But they’ll get splinters splinters and still be fine. Especially winch lines.

There’s a middle ground between being scared of gravel roads and jumping your truck 50’. I took my stock truck over every Colorado guidebook 4x4 road I could muster the first summer I had it. You learn by doing. These trucks are far more capable that people give them credit for.

I’ve never needed to be winched out or even used my traction boards yet, but I’ve damn sure been down some “hard” 4x4 roads. I don’t take my truck out to beat it up. But I enjoy pushing myself and learning to wheel. Plus some of the places you get to on these roads are beautiful.

^this. People get stuck on gear and stuff they “need”. The stock truck is plenty capable for a LOT of stuff.
