I'm actually doing the same right now. Registering soon for courses at the local tech colleges. I'm sure I could figure it out from trial & error, but I've always been quite interested in learing all I can and it just never fit it yet.

Edit because I clicked submit too soon: I should say I'm doing it because if I intend to weld on my frame I want it to be the best quality possible and I feel that instructor-led classes will do that even if it takes longer. But also I have some ideas for a manufacturing side-hustle so I'm willing to go the extra mile for it. YMMV

You just want want free labor for your table building sweatshop/empire, dontcha? LOL. But I might take you up on that...

I still make ALL the 8th grade students in the district learn how to Oxy weld... Yes, I know. I'm nuts. 14 year olds and fire... Keeps me young.

I'd say MIG to start. It's probably the easiest to lean and more forgiving if the machine settings aren't just right. If you can find someone like @pearing that will take the time to teach you that's really all you need. After that get a machine and go around finding scrap metal to stick together. You can go to machine /fab shops and ask them if they'll let you dumpster dive in the scrap metal bin for little pieces. That's all you need to learn with.

My brother burned down our detached garage while welding…
He was using a Lincoln 225 at the time. Lol
    No gas was involved!

True that! I hold back about 3/4 of what I actually want to say. The humor is a little to dark for most.

I'm debating on that or the stubby 3/8 impact...decisions, decisions

But, I already have Bertha, and a nice M12 impact. I do want the mid-torque 1/2" drive, but can't justify it right now.
