Ya know, it can be a very fine line between a trail that requires 4wd and a trail that requires a winch...

I'm just stirring the pot, because I know there are some diehard Falken guys around. :D I think those are great tires, aside from being a bit heavy and occasional balancing issues.

Out of curiosity, have you measured your tread depth? I'd be curious to see how they hold up with regular rotations, especially since I know you use them in all kinds of terrain.

I've seen some that have had good tire wear and others with bad wear like mine. Apparently there were bad batches of rubber in some cases.

It's that odd and heavy thing some of the others hang on the front so they can justify buying new bumpers and suspensions.

My wife thinks I spend far too much as it is...

She's probably right. I hate it when she's right about stuff like that.

I’m at Discount right now. They are installing Hankook Explorers. They gave me around $350 refund from the excessive wear on the wildpeaks. I’m out the door for about $550. About half what I was expecting to spend. I hope these work out.

    Edit to add...
Well, I'm sold on Discount tire. I was expecting to have to battle it out for the warranty on the Wildpeaks and show proof of timely rotations, but he never even brought it up.

Nice! Discount tire is great, even if their website sucks now.

I had a fun little experience yesterday. I drove down to Southern Missouri to spend some family time with my parents for the weekend. Rain and high wind hit while I was driving on I-44 and my passenger side roof drip molding flew off about halfway down the strip and was slapping the side of my truck.

Luckily my wife was quick to grab it by reaching back from the rear passenger window so I could recover it. God knows Toyota would probably charge me $200 just to replace that rubber.

Anyone else here ever have issue with their drip molding coming up? Maybe it's my excuse to install a Prinsu to secure it down in place. ;)

Tread depth was measured at 0.420"-ish. Converts to 13/32". I run 'em at 40 psi. Now I wonder what the depth was when new? 36k on them.

EDIT: I looked at Falkens website. Says the tread depth on a new tire in 275/70/17 is 18/32.

Sound like you are about 1/3rd of the way through those tires at 36k! Damn!
