Had it happen twice. Rust perforated a line in a '70 Bug I had and another VW had a rubber line blow out from being badly weathered.

I blew a brake line on my 97 Mazda B4000 from driving through lots of heavy wet snow. It packed in so hard it pushed a soft line into the coil spring which smashed it when it compressed on bumps. I was so fortunate to have the best timing ever, it literally blew in my driveway. Drove to my parking spot hit the brakes, pedal went to the floor and I bumped to a stop on a snowbank.

I blew a brake line, but that was way back in the 70s in a car made in the 60s. It is unusual for a modern car to have such issues.

Would a 1994 Ford F150 count as a modern vehicle? If so, I blew a hard line on that once. Road salt is a helluva drug.

Blew a rubber line on my '67 Dart in '76 in the school parking lot. Hit the car in front of me. Blew a steel line on the "96 Silverado 5 years ago. Some judicious brake pedal and clutch gymnastics, along with catlike steering wheel control and the ability to not panic saved the day. I stopped on the terrace (9uck the curb:rolleyes:) next to the guy that was in front of me. Morning rush hour at Fish Hatch and Park.

That's what I'm here for, the mods and the gear.
We were looking for a parts/food truck for the trail. This has potential.

How is that even possible-as near as I can tell, you've never owned a vehicle long enough to have trouble with it...

Well, considering the day that truck rolled off the factory floor I was only 2 years old, you would be correct :D but I am very certain age had nothing to do with it because brake lines are not supposed to be in between the gap in coil springs lol

Luckily, since the mid to late 60's ('68 stands out in my mind), brake systems have been isolated in such a way that losing one line doesn't mean complete system failure. I remember Bugs were split LF/RR, RF/LR. That way you still had stable braking that wouldn't yaw or spin you.

Parking brake is always a last resort.

I had a 94 Ranger that gave its life to me. Bought it new and drove it to the 4x4 shop (this was before I wanted to work on my own shit). Never had a problem with the brake lines. Lots of other things (mostly my fault), but not that...

Rust, and if you wiggle a hard line around you'll introduce stress fractures at the joints.

Happens quite a bit in the rust belt. Usually you get a warning, soft pedal, some leakage ect. I went from soft pedal to no pedal with only one stop in between.

Supported. That's a good price for one too

    Supported X2

They are, but if you're blowing through enough fluid you can still have trouble building pressure from the main cylinder. Best bed is short but firm pumps to maintain pressure. As long as you've got fluid flowing, you can keep pressure to the other two brakes. This is how I was able to prevent the truck from going through an intersection with 40 mph cross traffic and how I got it to a parking lot so I could work on it.

I lost my 85 to blown brake lines, I wasn't going to lose this one.

In all honesty, I beat the living hell out of both of those vehicles. The fact that I only lost brakes on the both is amazing. Friends couldn't believe how hard I was on them.
