That has some serious potential for a camper build!

Sounds like a good decision to me. ;)

That's a nice looking pickup. But $40K?? Good luck.

Probably in terrible shape. Engine internals don't do well when they sit

My 1989 2wd 4spd manual was $6,800 but my old man wouldn’t co-sign for anything over $6200.00. 4 days later the dealer called and said $ 6,209 including tax.
    I paid $129.00 per month!

It was just over 300,000 miles and I got hit by a Uhaul truck that was trying to cross 4 lanes.

That bites. I wonder how long it would have gone otherwise.

I love that truck! So awesome that you had it for as long as you did.

Probably a 22R-C or 22R-E, so basically forever. Or, when the frame rotted out. :D

I had it covered with 3m rustproof. Not a spot of rust except on the hood from rock chips driving Indianapolis to Chicago every weekend.

The 22R is what I meant. The "E" stands for EFI, and for some reason I thought the carbureted version had a "C", but I guess not. :notsure:

My Celica had the 22R-E. Torquey little motor.

Had a 22RE. Ate oil. Burned clean. Plenty of torque where it counted. 36mpg STL to KC on the regular

Celica, pickup, 4Runner, or? I'm not sure what else they put them in.

Edit: 36 sounds pretty impressive. My Celica got like 25, but I might have been a little rough on it.

Okay, so I had a shudder and I know a few were watching to see the outcome. Here is what I had, did and the outcome so far:

Truck is a 2015 Dblc with 95k. Loved regularly with service, but I also play hard with it as well-towing and wheeling etc. Never shown much of a shudder-fixed other suspension issues with a Tom Woods one piece drive shaft, springs and lift. Recently drove out to Moab with some fellow TW hooligans and blew up my rearend-new Eaton E locker installed and a nasty shudder revealed... At 75 a slight shudder, but a big nasty one at 45. Thought maybe the guys doing the rearend didn't put drive shaft on correctly so rotated 90 degrees. Solved the one at 75, but not the 45. Decided I had the dreaded torque converter shudder... Check this link:Transmission- 5 Speed automatic write up with pics for second gen 4 liter trucks | Tacoma World Last transmission service was two years ago and 28k miles-well within the life span of the factory fluid.

Trauma on top of trauma... I bought $300 worth of Amsoil WS blue cap and some LubeGuard Platinum and spent Sunday morning in and out of the shop. Did a drain and fill four times. About 2 1/2 qt each time. Final added the LubeGuard, got to temp and let it overflow to spec.

Outcome. Shudder is effectively gone. Slight buzzinging at lowest rpm under load; but, realistically I am on 33's with stock gearing and every truck I have ever known did something similar under a "bogging" load. Truck is fine now in my opinion. What I think happened is this: The trip out to Moab was with my full overland kit and against the wind at 75-80 mph. Truck was working hard and seldom in 5th gear. Although the fluid that came out looked good (Toyota stuff) I think it got hot. Don't know, but this is what I think happened. Then I drove home at 75-80 again. Got hot again. This shudder came out of nowhere, so it had to be associated with the trip. Hoping the Amsoil will hold up better. Know more in a month or so after I get busy with my summer towing needs.
