So... just when you think its safe to take a shower and hang out with the family... the left rear wheel cylinder lets go. Are you funking kidding me? Luckily made it home in one piece... Last time I had one let go like this I was coming down State Street in Olympia Wa. Not as calm an ending. 55 Chev's have one big brake reservoir and when its gone its gone for the whole thing...

So back in the shop with me this afternoon. Half my core charge re spent. Truck seems to stop now. Appears this was damaged from my little brake escapade a few weeks back. Had been leaking, just not a lot. Glad it happened here and not in the Ozarks! If you care, you can change just the wheel cylinder without taking much apart. All I took apart was one side the brake pin. That gave me enough room to move it around and out. Was a wonderfully easy repair. Messy though-had to take another shower.

Perhaps I am picking on you a little bit, but the statement is true, I really am surprised you don't have them yet as they seem like something that would be right up your alley. You have different options. Considering both you and all your students are hands on fabricators I'm assuming you would buy the cheaper option which is the weld it yourself option. Only thing you have to pay attention to when doing the weld it yourself option (so I have read, I am not speaking from experience) is you don't want to overheat the spindles when welding on the gussets as you can warp them and or change the metal characteristics and make them brittle. Your other option is you can trade in your spindles as like a core charge and be sent to some gusseted ones that were already welded by a fab shop.

Honestly I probably should get some considering how I take having to slow down for potholes and washouts and dips as a personal insult lol. There actually were some for sale not too far away from me and I'm still upset with myself for not buying them.

Yeah, I just know people tend to have wheel bearings go not too long after they swap to gusseted spindles. It seems like wheel bearings don't like being swapped out like that. Not that it's a huge deal but just a pain in the ass plus you have to take so much apart in the front end. Are you going to try finding work at another dealership or head in a complete different direction?

Apparently a tightened shackle will withstand more force than a "not tightened" shackle. However, in a recovery you can't generate enough force needed to make any difference, tight or not. Break points are in the 65,000 lb. range with a loose pin.

FWD to 5:18 for the test results.
