I had something similar happen with my 4runner when it was a few months old. Driving in buddies back 40 a until I found a bog I was warned about. My passenger side sank down to the frame/sliders. Had a buddy with a winch, but we could only pull from a quartering angle. It wouldn’t budge so we stopped before hardware and shit started breaking. The only thing that kept my from having to call my insurance agent is that we took some time to brainstorm.

Neither of us had traction boards; but I went back home (only 2miles away) and cut a couple of 4 foot sections of 2x14 boards I had laying around. Then we went back (we should have taken more water), and trenched out the sunk wheels as deep as possible so we could get the boards under them. Not for traction, but to serve as a ramp to help the winch on my buddies jeep have an easier pull. It came right out.

If you get help to try a self recovery, Don’t rush the recovery! Take your time and follow your gut. If you get a friend out there that has a winch, make sure to talk through a gameplan, and agree that either of you can abort a pull to regroup if need be! But make sure to dig out as much as possible first. If you are going to use a strap after digging out, try a slow traction pull first. Don’t do a snatch pull unless last resort! And if you do make sure it’s a snatch strap, not a tow strap!

Take several kinds of long handled shovels, and a machete just in case the grass is thatchy and you need it to cut through it.

That hole came out of nowhere, huh?!
I literally have everything you described, with. Even the 2×4's. The only thing missing was a pull.
I have a come-a-long and a 20' kinetic rope but nothing remotely close to the truck to hook onto.
Shovel deemed useless as it's solid ice/frozen earth under the truck so I grabbed the hatchet and started chipping away.
Crawl mode between low and medium was doing great and wanted to go but it's snagged.
    Man, just needed a nudge.
My coworker, that's going back out this morning with me, has a snowplowing business on the side and an affinity toward heavy equipment.

Thanks for sharing and thanks for the recovery pointers.
I'll certainly take them ALL into consideration.

Machete. I did not have a machete
or some rubber shit kickers. :D

The plan 'was' to keep it simple.
Started on a gravel logging path that led to a small falls. Getting stink eye by UTV's but it's a road.
    Other vehicles were using it.
My son asked for 'dirt'. He was getting bored. I'm not the instigator, here. lol

Had it not been for getting my son home, I'd still be out there.

Sometimes just waiting til morning makes things easy too. One time I got caught in some super greasy mud and spent a couple hours trying to get out. Eventually got tired and stopped for the evening. In the morning, it was much more solid and drove right out.

spring thaw can be a real pain sometimes
