Spent some time under the truck today. Amazing how dry the u-joints were... I guess being underwater for a week can do that! The Uniballs were screaming out on trail so I can only imagine.

Before his son showed up, the come-a-long rock method proved itself incapable.

well you got to enhance your recovery skills today , looks wet ! Glad your trucks out. Oh just wanted to add something. Just because it's a full size truck doesn't mean it will make it where your Tacoma is ! Weight , sometimes has to be added into the equation. Just putting it out there.

The difference here is that the 4wd selector is a real thing that actually exists.

Running uni-balls in the world of salt and snow requires mega balls.

The straps were a mix of kinetic rope, snatch straps and recovery.

Have you seen the fairly recent recoveries gone wrong tugging? One was fatal and the other just bloody and expensive.

edit: both had straps come back through their windshields.

OK. I couldn't tell from the video.

I was just going to mention that taking a running start with regular recovery straps was extremely dangerous. But if you had a kinetic rope involved, that's a different story.

I'm not sure if it's recommended to do a kinetic recovery with different types of straps hooked together, though.

Your come a long didn't work properly because it was you against the truck ! What you needed was a truck winch or Rachet winch preferably a 3 ton or bigger. They work way better then normal come a long and cheaper then a truck winch

This doesn't say anything about using a static strap in conjunction with a kinetic rope or strap. It recommends having both for use in different circumstances.

At the very least, I'd make sure that the static strap had a higher breaking strength than the kinetic strap involved.

The screenshot you posted says it's good to have both types of straps, for different situations. It doesn't say to use them together at the same time.

When doing kinetic recoveries, never use static straps, or two straps.

    Ever.
