Are the wheels the same and just the tires are different brand/model/size? If so, then I'd say it just depends how much you want or need 33s. I'd probably do it assuming they look to be in as good or better shape than your existing tires. Let me know if you need any help picking them up or anything since I'm way down here and work in northern burbs.

Small lift, slightly oversized tires, well...
Same wheels, Wildpeak MTs 255/85/16 tires. Tread blocks aren't terribly torn up, worn but good for a while. I'd have to drive down there, he wants direct swap as he's planning on trading the truck soon.

I'm leaving for TX next Friday. Time might get tight if I have to get an alignment due to rubbing (not real likely with 33s).

One plus is he has a 33 spare on stock steelie.

Oh, and I'd have to get my TPMS reprogrammed.

If you can go out in your front yard in the morning and take a leak, you know you've 'made it'.

Hmm quite an interesting trade then. Yeah if you have the clearance then I'd do the trade. Shouldn't need an alignment just from swapping wheels unless you're talking about moving LCAs forward for clearance type thing. You 3rd gen guys have more space by default I think than us 2nd gen'rs and with skinnies plus the stock wheel offsets it probably is a non issue.

That's the other more reasonable take. Remember those old Looney Tunes cartoons where they'd have the devil on one shoulder and an angel on the other? I think the TW equivalent would be Pat of the North cheering for 35's and Dan of the FDL with the halo saying "now now, patience."

Hmm that gives me an idea for a Photoshop...

But then he wouldn't have all summer to see if he likes the 33's.

People might think wheeling a daily is crazy because it’s expensive if you damage them, but is it any less expensive to buy and fix a SxS in addition to a daily?

SxS’s are fine, and they have their place. But they seems to make many owners feel entitled to to tear up trails and drive as if nobody else is around (and sometimes feel like they own NF roads too). It’s not all of them, but enough to give them their machines an image problem.

I pee in the yard anytime of day I want. Can hear a car coming for 1/2 mile. Plenty of time to empty out.

Oh I have no doubt they would be fun if you have a place for them. So many people own them in suburbia though to drive 3 blocks. I never understood all the golf carts either and now they’ve moved up to SxS.

if I lived somewhere with plenty of trails (not Iowa) I could see owning one.

    Well, the plot thickens...

I think I'm going to do the wheels. Plus, he's got a whole list of stuff that came off his truck. I may be able to score a set of stage 2 Deavers and Total Chaos bed stiffeners for $585.

@Pixeltim, he's got some BAMF long boi bolt-on sliders for $750. Never been off road, almost new.

I'll have to check them out. With 85K miles on the Bilsteins, I need to start thinking about what's next.

At least they had a ride home, though.

The cost isn't the only thing to consider. A broken UTV can be limped or dragged onto a trailer and brought home. A broken daily means you're getting towed all the way home, or getting it repaired wherever it broke.

Some of those things have turbocharged engines and a ridiculous amount of suspension travel, so they're like mini trophy trucks that regular people can afford. There's almost no way to duplicate that with a 4Runner or Tacoma without a huge budget.

As far as some of the drivers seeming to think they own the trails, I agree with you there. Overall it seems like a different crowd, and probably not a crowd that I fit into. I even heard rumors that it was UTV's that got the Pipeline shut down, which would be especially annoying since they were never permitted to be there in the first place. But, I can't hold people behavior against the vehicle they chose.
