The previous post does not imply we're done riding for the year....

    Adventure time on Saturday.
We'll go explore more into Clark Cty Forest. N./N.E. of Fairchild.

I'm trying to remember the consensus when batteries were last brought up. Mine is finally starting to give out on me. Rockauto has some solid AGM options. Thinking of getting this one.

    Screenshot_20241015-165143.png

The I remembered something about the alternator not playing nice with AGM's or something like that

Some info here on the AGM batteries and alternator output: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/agm-battery-upgrade.805083/

Basically, the stock alternator doesn't put out the max voltage that the battery can take. You can get a tune to fix that, give it an occasional trickle charge for a while, or do nothing. I think all 3 options have the same results. Personally, I kinda do option 2 with my X2Power AGM. I bought a Noco Genius2 and I like to plug it in for a few hours before going on a longer trip or off roading. I haven't measured voltage, but do it just for peace of mind I guess.

Others on here are far more knowledgeable than I in these matters, but so far this has worked out fine for me.

AGM is expensive. I just run a 27F in both trucks and I've yet to kill one, lights and all (even submerging ...)

I do have both alternators tuned for higher output

You don’t need to mess with the alternator output. You’ll get slightly less capacity. I spend the money on a solar panel vs raising the alternator output .2v

put it on a trickle charger once in a while if you are worried about it

I’ve had one in my tundra since 2019 and I don’t worry about it. Had zero problems.

Well.....long story short, I bought myself three-ish more years to ponder it :anonymous:

    PXL_20241015_224939609.MP.jpg

Long story long......it was going to be a logistical nightmare trying to share one vehicle to get me, my wife, and my daughter all to work and school tomorrow.

Especially considering we've changed our schedules to work around my mother-in-law being in Mexico all month.

If the battery had died tomorrow I could have played the shopping game a little more. The kiddo is off Thursday to Monday from school so I took off work those days too.

It's a shame really. It would have been a glorious snowball of spending to justify the Cascadia panel I want to get on the hood eventually.

    We're talking about stock alternators?
and in what fashion do you have them tuned?
(Trying to understand how to get more than 130amps out of a 130amp alternator)

Small lift, slightly oversized tires, well...
Got my son's old car sold today. Long story short on the starter issue: it appears to be the same thing that caused the trans issues he was having a month or so prior...a bad body ground. Pulled the main ground off near the battery, sanded the paint off, coated with dielectric grease and Voila! All working like a champ!

Anyhoo, the guy that bought the car showed up rocking this:
    20241015_100120.jpg 20241015_100112.jpg

Clean, ran like a top. The only flaw I found was on the cap, rear upper corner of the right side window had developed a crack. Well, he did have Ranger hubcaps on it....

    14v output vs 12v

Tuned or rather, adjusted through the now defunct TechStream platform.

Cracked versions of TechStream Lite still work, many tuners still use it for a multitude of adjustments and customizations with Toyotas (minus the Supra, you need BMW's iSTA software for that. Junk)

You can’t adjust the output with techstream. It’s part of the tune file created with vF tuner in the alternator tables.

It’s volts you are adjusting not amps.

one of the sparkys can jump in but the two are related in some way, more volts less amps or something. I’m just the guy that pushes buttons.
