I worked with a guy that lost an eye using a mitter saw. He had 1 piece of wood to cut. Didn't think he needed his safety glasses for just 1 cut.
I keep safety glasses and ear plugs next to all my power equipment.

Y’all are welcome to come ride along and see the injuries acquired from, “just one last cut” or “one quick ride”. I’m not telling anyone what to do, but I’m not sure if electing not to use safety gear is cool any more.

I had this conversation with a guy on a bike forum (who also happens to be a member here) about safety gear. On my bike, if I'm going a block up the street to check something after maintenance, I'm 6 kinds of paranoid about not having a helmet on. At the same time, I often will go for a ride in just jeans (but good boots, jacket, and gloves are a must). It's a risk I accept. I haven't gone skiing in years, but I don't think I could wear a helmet. I've known people who've effed up and gone into the woods and clipped trees. I just don't see it happening to me...I'll take a dive on the snow before I'll go into the trees.

I know people get messed up all of the time. I know myself and have a pretty good feel for where the line is that I should re-evaluate. It's served me well so far...hope I can get a few more years yet.

I've welded without a jacket. Think of the worst sunburn you've ever gotten. That isn't sh$t! And you don't even get a warning...it's just there all of a sudden. I may do a quick repair without a jacket, but only if it's going to take a minute or two. Never without a helmet. Flash burns to your eyes are serious. I accidentally flashed myself once. That night and much of the next day, it felt like I had sand in my eyes and I was very light sensitive, like having your eyes dilated.

I can verify that Rich wears his safety gear while riding.

These days electric saws can have as much if not more power than gas saws

if anyone needs a lesson in chainsaw safety, @Tigerian can teach the course. He went through some of the certifications at the dnr

Logging is one of the most dangerous professions out there and people LARPing like they know how to use a saw still don’t think it’s worth the time to put on a pair of chaps that can be the difference between going home to see your loved ones and bleeding out in a pool of your own blood. Boggles my mind.

A co worker cut all his own wood for many years.
He was in his 50's when he was cutting a tree down for a friend of his son's when it twisted and fell on him.
Paralyzing him from the waist down.
    Now he's in a wheelchair.

    Be safe everyone.

Edit: I'll add he was an avid marathon runner and he continues to do marathons in a chair.

I am careful and have still had contact with saws. I wear the Kevlar pants and helmet when using a chain saw (at home anyway….)

I dropped a maple tree in my front yard, years ago. Close to the street.
Climbed up with no gear, an electric chainsaw and a step ladder.
Climbed the tree and cut it down branch by branch.

I have another dead maple on the other side of the driveway, I've been waiting 2 years for the city to come cut.

    I won't do that again.

I volunteer with the Ashland ski trail Association. We bought a new Kubota groomer last year and never used it. Snowed here, finally, last night so I got up and rolled the trails this morning. Groom and set tracks when it quits

I don't think I'd want to see the things you see on those calls. The story you shared on @Shellshock 's T.W.A.T run in 2019 was certainly interesting!

I'll admit that I'm not always the best about wearing the proper PPE at all times. But, I don't encourage others to do the same.

Boy, the more I look at it, I almost think the front is sitting a little too high. I wonder how I could fix that. :notsure:

When I'm dropping/trimming a tree, I always plan a clear escape route in case shit happens.

    Sounds good all the time.

I have a pork shoulder in the slow cooker.
    It's a big one.
Lot's of ideas floating around in my head.
