    Lol...
It’s on the 2nd floor. Take the stairs in between the gas station and the restaurant.

GMRS radio would give you a bit more range and what a lot of the clubs run. More and more are going to Ham with all the repeaters being established.

After talking to the guy at my off road shop, I was really tempted to go gmrs. But, everybody I know is running CB so that's the way I went. Of course you can always have multiple systems. Ham is supposed to be really nice, but there are regulations and licenses to deal with.

I figured I can upgrade later. I thought about other options but I figured cb was easier. No requirements or license requirements. A ton of people I know have them or are getting one. Cheap setup. Im under a time crunch to set it up. Using to communicate on The trail for now. Probably looking to get a Ham radio later.

A few things I've learned over the years,

do NOT buy the spring for the ant.

the ant. should be 4ft., they say that's optimun length

ant. should be 40% above highest point of truck

no matter what anyone says, you cannot trim an ant. with the internal meter

for best listening get external speaker you can plug into the back of cb and mount where you want
I used to use one called little big mouth was like two inches square and was very clear

use the longest cable you can 15 to 20ft best and never coil excess

I am not an expert but these are things I've picked up over the years

    back to our regular programming

It's not really an upgrade, it's a whole different set up. But, most off road parks and guys that I have gone on trail runs with are running CB. I don't know if I would bother with ham. I would look into the pros and cons of ham versus gsmr in the long run and then make a decision.

Firestik seems to be the top dog when it comes to CB antennas, and they recommend of spring in certain scenarios. They also sell antennas of all different lengths. I've heard that 9 foot is Optimum but that doesn't really make any sense either.

What I do know, is that last year on the camping trip Aaron called in on the CB, and I heard him perfectly when he was on his way to the campsite. I tried to reply but he could not hear me. It wasn't until he was very close that he could hear my reply. He was using a Firestik antenna, while I was using a cheap whip antenna. He also stressed the importance of tuning the antenna which Firestik stresses as well.

If you don't have a bed cover, the total chaos bed stiffeners have a horizontal mounting point that is solid. Plus you get 6 additional cargo tie downs.

Tuning your antenna: this is a must

yes. I have a tonneau cover that stays in year round.

For the next few months I’ll just be using the mag mount. It should be good enough in a small group out trail riding. I’m pretty sure I’ll be going with the 4’ Firestick and the rear mounted Caliraised bracket over the drivers side taillight. Thought about the 3’ Firestick but was told by several people to get the 4’. It’s still relatively cheap.
    Yep tuning.

Use of the spring will change reception, sitting still is fine when moving or bouncing the ant. around it will cut your distance of reception

firestik set up right will shoot farther than others in the right scenario

I had ordered the five foot, but changed my order when I saw that Firestik only recommended up to three foot on a magnetic mount. Once I figure out a permanent mounting location, I'll switch to a four foot or five foot.

That little whip will be fine for trail runs.

The little mag mount is considered a line of site ant.

I will have to use a spring or break my antenna off. I'm constantly going through areas where branches are dragging across my roof rack. Even when I ditched the magnet mount for a permanent Mount, I will use a spring. The spring is pretty heavy duty. The antenna is not going to be flopping around unless it hits something or I'm going a hundred fifty miles an hour.

I’m getting a spring. I don’t want to retune my antenna after I snap it off on its 1st day after install. Plus I don’t want to hear my wife say “you broke another one?”
