I think my tank hangs lower on the 4runner. I actually thought uphill would be better since you're less likely to start sliding down from momentum. But, you have a good point about letting gravity do the work. I'd like to do both once I'm properly equipped.

It’s not steep enough to slide downhill out of control. It was raining a little while I did it and had no issue with sliding. It’s more about choosing your line to keep the bigger rocks where you need them. Which I did not do perfectly... :anonymous:. Perhaps a spotter would have been helpful.

The issue uphill would be the smooth rocks and the fact that there is some sand between the rocks. Getting traction to make it up over some of the rocks uphill would be tough. Downhill the sliding helps.

I'll definitely keep that in mind. I saw a Jeep go up in June and he got to a spot where he couldn't get over a rock because of no traction. He had to back down. I think it was the sand that screwed him. He also mentioned that more sand and gravel wash out every year so it's progressively getting more difficult.

    Who doesn’t?! :bananadance:

But soon I will be moving out west. Man I miss the mountains. The first weekend we move back to Albuquerque, we are going camping and wheeling in southern Colorado before the passes close. Then a winter of NM, AZ, and Utah wheeling.

I wanted to get in another WI offroad adventure or two but it’s been non stop family( her family :help:) obligations.

I also figured out my steering rack and LCAs need replaced. So free time I have will likely be replacing those before i move. I think the steering rack is gonna be a huge pain in the ass

***The awning is an Overland Vehicle Systems 270. I’ve only used it a little but it seems like it’s an amazing awning. And literally half the price of the other one I was considering. I picked it up for 20% off through campsaver.com

Bummer! Sounds like an excuse to get long travel. :anonymous:

Thanks for the information. It really looks awesome! I am looking into options so I can keep windows cracked open while sleeping in the 4runner.

I dream of proper long travel. But LT plus steering upgrade, axel upgrade, coilovers, rear shock relocate and new shocks leaf, plus gears. $12k easy. Which is dumb cause my suspension was already expensive.

For some weird reason the wife isn’t supportive of upgrading the suspension again :notsure:

You know.. For bugs. They have a little awning but they cause water to seep in at the top of the door.
