50k miles on my stock UCA's.

There wasn't any play in the ubj's.
Granted they were a lot looser than the new ones. Driver side being even looser than passenger.

    Food for thought.

Took me WAY too long to figure this out…. I have a skeleton so should I strap it to the Ute?

Relentless Fab hybrid bumper, 2.5” Dobinsons IMS lift, RCI skids and sliders, block heater. Painted FJ Steelies. Was trying to keep it stock, now slowly building for the Wisconsin trails.
I didn't see any towing, very few trailers now that I think of it. Interestingly, the Police use stock 4Runners that are unmarked except for a blue lightbar on top.
No reason, it couldn't tow. The hills were all manageable and not nearly as steep as what I saw in St Thomas. Heck I was in a 4 cylinder jeep that did fine.

With stock UCAs, you won't need to worry about that as much. The lift will change your caster (you will lose some), which is the adjustment that helps your wheels self-center when you drive. Aftermarket UCAs are made with their geometry adjusted to help bring it back.

To add to that. Some places will just do a toe and go.
The place I go to charges their hourly rate for lifted vehicles or anything specific.

It seems to me that it's a bigger issue with stock UCA's, at least with 4runners. With enough lift, the stock uppers won't allow enough caster to get in spec. That's the whole reason most people switch to aftermarket UCA's. I generally tell people that they should plan on getting aftermarket UCA's if they're lifting over 2.5" or so.

I'd tell the shop to get as much caster as possible while keeping everything else in spec and see where they end up.

    Edit:

I mean that if you're trying to get a shop to go above spec, or at least max spec on a lifted Toyota, it's going to be easier with aftermarket UCA's.

See I can't keep my hands off of things. :D

Straightened out the lca with the 'seized' cams.
This morning the steering was maybe at the 2 o'clock mark and the 'check stability control' lit up.

I fixed the steering but the 'stability' error still exists. :annoyed:

Time to have the 'pros' line it up.

Definitely! Those UCA's surely threw off your alignment. Tires aren't cheap!

Pertaining to UCA's: When you look at how much droop stock uca's have vs. aftermarket.
    20250518_172641.jpg 20250526_102709.jpg
The aftermarket look like they allow the shock to do its job better and the uca can swing freely up and down. (laying more flat)
The angle of the stock uca on lifted trucks, is enough to send the impact more into the upper shock mount via uca.

    One man's unprofessional opinion.

The shop I go to for alignment told me to get adjustable uca's....so I didn't :D
I asked last time I was there, to see what they'd say.

I don't know what's best but that extra adjustment point looks like adding another spot that can loosen or fail.
    :notsure:

I'll just add here...trying to cut back on my post count. lol

Not sure when it happened but this tab was bent and the cam bolt was shifted over. This is the arm with the seized cams. (left/front)
20250526_105445.jpgI was able to fully loosen the bolt and -0- it out.

Are you sure that light wasn't referring to driver? :D:D

A cheap fix for the tabs are put a bead of weld on them so they can move

Well, you guys are bad luck.
I was going to take a picture of my cam tabs and what do I see? CV boot has a leak. Inside boot right next to shaft clamp. Looks like it just started. Probably tore at James house.

Also, Kwik Trip has an awesome sale for 40¢ off per gallon when you buy 2 of certain products. Came in handy yesterday after driving out for mod day.

I'm not entirely sure but I'm guessing it has something to do with factory specs and liability.

WTF does the factory even know about that stuff?
