I did not know that the expiration dates don't matter. Haven't shopped there much recently, but maybe I'll see if I have any receipts laying around. Playing their silly game...

I may have said it before: That 11% scam is the reason I only go to Menards if there is no other option. Rebate implies you get money back. John Menard's 'rebate' just gets you the option to spend more money in his store.

    Now, get off my lawn!

Check their prices against Home Depot. Even without the rebate, Menard's is generally the same or cheaper.

Even if the rebate is only good for buying stuff at Menard's, there's pretty much always something I need that I can get there. Cleaning supplies, hardware, spare 10mm sockets...

Edit: I'm not trying to promote Menard's. It actually seems like John is a shitty person.

But Menard's lumber noodles are the worst and they don't carry Milwaukee Tools. o_O :D

The bull bars are a tricky thing. Depending on placement, they can mess with adaptive cruise control. Something like Pat's would work, though.

You definitely have to sort through 2x4s if you want straight ones. But, I would imagine that's the same at Home Depot. I have only bought 2x4s from menards, so no argument there.

The lack of Milwaukee Tools is definitely a shortcoming.

I often have to run to Menards or Home Depot for electrical parts when there's not a supply house nearby. And, I generally don't find either one to be better than the other aside from when I'm looking for a certain brand name or product.

    I thought about the bar....
Most don't look like they will work with my winch in the way. (hidden receiver)

Considered buying one without and seeing if @pearing would make one to size.....I'm not sure he still has access to the pipe bender?

I have a pipe bender and as of this moment I am teaching next year. Can only bend 2"... or 3/4". You could come up and visit for a bend and weld project...

I'm not disputing their prices. I'm talking about deceptive business practices. Telling people they're getting a rebate and then requiring them to purchase more to redeem the rebate is a form of bait and switch in my mind.

I had never shopped much at Menards, but did make a purchase once because of the 'rebate'. Their price wasn't special, but 11% back would've made it worthwhile...only to find out afterward that I had to buy more from Menards to get my 'rebate' in the form of future discounts. I don't think I ever got the full 'rebate' amount back because one of the provisions at the time was that they started deducting a 'maintenance' fee if you didn't use the 'rebate' within a certain time frame.

    rebate
    transitive verb
    1. To beat to obtuseness; to deprive of keenness; to blunt; to turn back the point of, as a lance used for exercise.
      Similar: blunt
    2. To deduct from; to make a discount from, as interest due, or customs duties.
    3. To return a portion of a sum paid, as a method of discounting of prices.

I guess maybe I got the first...beat to obtuseness.

I would do that, once I decide on a bumper.
Like Dean, I'm not a fan of headlight hoops.
I want to do more like Tim. except with the RCI pike bumper. No hoop/bare metal. (make a hoop to size with winch in).

Only thing stopping me is I don't want to buy the pike bumper and realize a year or two from now, I should've just bought a full bumper.

    Decisions, decisions.

    Gotcha.

Hoops are nice because they protect your headlights from those wild trees that jump out in front of you

Just how high up is your winch if you're worried that the hoop is going to block it? o_O

He has a hidden hitch. The winch mount would sit in the same space as a hoop, unless it was like Pat's.

    edit: Note the winch mount:

The handles on the winch mount can come off. I keep them on mainly as some protection.

Not enough room behind the winch for a half bar.

If you are doing a bumper? Why not just mount the winch?

Or put in a new receiver mount that is where you want it?

Because I need to be difficult. lol

I don't want to drive around with constant weight.
I don't want my winch constantly exposed to the elements, when I'm only offroading once/mo. maybe.

I have an Anderson plug in the bed so I can use the winch both front and back....

    No. I'm not buying a 2nd winch.
