In Montana no less. We are in Butte. Just a hope and a skip down the road. You could stop and heckle tomorrow as you are on your way north and I am doing Roadkill Garage repairs in the hotel parking lot!

We are now safely in Butte MT at the Copper King hotel. Parts are ordered from the local Toyota dealership and are promised to be here in the morning

As some know I try and baby my mirrors as they were a conversion I am particularly proud of. At one point in the Mc Gyver operation the truck fell off the bottle jack and my shoulder did what no Ent yet has-took the mirror clean off. PIA but oh well We are safe and I can fix the truck

IMG_0590.jpg Here is a higher resolution picture. I had a bottle jack under the LCA and the HiLift for safety (oxymoron if I ever heard one). A huge timber I found cut with chain saw to block the spindle against the tree and then used the winch to pull the knuckle from same said tree. Had I had a torch this would have been successful

So, to explain. Some how I was on the old eau up to Dempsey Basin. Hadn’t even made it to the “parking lot” yet. We were on a very old sketchy trail and got unlucky in a fief with a very large rock. Long ways from humans. Long ways from said parking lot. Once I realized I couldn’t fix the thing I wrapped my head around a wasted tire and we backtracked to see if we could at least get to a place where a tow truck could get to us. Met Bob on the way down. Born and raised there. Told my the error of my route planning to get up to Dempsey Basin. Also knew the tow truck driver to call. Great guy. Met his wife nephew grand kids and a friend from Billings. Wonderful people. The tow truck driver was a hoot. He did say that I should try again some time to get into Dempsey Basin. Sharon thinks we need to reconsider how difficult our routes are…. I think I need more bomber stuff!

Taco upgrades or just take the next natural step and trade up to a Unimog?

This wouldn’t be a problem if he’d hurry up with the solid axle conversion

Great news! Good call on visiting the shop. Did they have any thoughts on why you lost oil pressure?

Agree, you could score a decent mog for the cost of a set of portals. Stick a Toyota badge on it and yer off to the races!
