Hey gents (and James), question for the collective.

120k mile oil change on the Taco revealed it had burned/lost about 1 quart in the past 5k miles (I do oil changes every 5k). As these engines age, is that within normal parameters? Or should I start planning an LS swap?

Is it possible you forgot to top it off after the last change? When you first turn it over the filter will suck some of that brand new oil in and "drop" your level on the stick a bit.

Do you have a catch can? Blowby is pretty prevalent on these things, esp if you don't have the fake attkinson cycle tuned out

    Also

Timing cover seep/leak could be a culprit

Highly recommend doing a BG suite on your next oil change as well

Measured the oil that was drained and it came out to just over 5 quarts, with some still left in the filter. No catch can, the internet always seems to be split 50/50 on effectiveness - worth considering, for sure.

I haven't heard of that BG brand, but I'll definitely check it out! Thank you for the tips dude

And BG definitely isn't snake oil. (Part of my formula for success though)

Heavy schmeavy. What's it matter if you're not doing high speed whoops? (My Wildpeaks are supposedly 58#) They look cool, that's all that matters at the mall.

Seriously though, you will feel the weight slightly on acceleration and deceleration, especially panic brakes (if you're paying attention, you should rarely find yourself in that position, though). I think the weight is a small part of the reason my gas mileage went up overall.

I've never actually measured what comes out. The oil filter's going to absorb a half quart or so.

My tires are 66 lbs and the wheels are 24 lbs for an even 90 at each corner. My gas mileage definitely took a hit. Fun to load the spare in the bed too. Glad I found a buddy to make that super sturdy tire rack back there.
