Make sure the snap ring thingy is open down when you put it in. Push and wiggle. They can be difficult…

Yessir! The good news is that, if we ever have a TW gathering in that area, we could all have an opportunity to get stuck over there. :D

Or, we could use better judgment and not have any problems. :notsure:

I know of a few more places to try and get stuck or, at minimum, exercise the crawl control.

In fairness, that sounds pretty normal for a CV axle. They can be persnickety bitches at times

    Dave,

I would love to wire up Alf. Unfortunately your timing sucks. School starts tomorrow and I am still buried in bike work until the end of October. Need to find a retired guy...

Since we're all about cutting and trimming, I chose that route with my brand spanking new bumper reinforcements.

I honestly don't think you weakened that too much. If you bend your frame, you've done something pretty f@ckin' stoopid.

I’m that type of guy too…usually every other fill-up I pop the hood and have a look-see. Never burned any oil between 5K oil changes on the 4runner, and hope it stays that way.

I’ve always seen the disclaimer in manuals of various cars/motorcycles that some oil burn is considered normal, and I always thought what they considered normal is excessive.

An oil burning engine doesn’t necessarily mean it’s done for, but it does mean that you can’t skip regular oil checks. It also means that the vehicle becomes slightly more annoying because you actually have to check it, and you might need to start carrying an extra quart with you on long trips.

Blowby on the piston rings is usually the reason, but why an engine with 100k suddenly decides to start burning is a little odd. Would maybe a bad PCV valve be the cause of blow by? Not sure if they are as cheap and easy to replace as they are in the 4runner, but it might be worth a shot.

After getting a fresh look at it, and a new attitude, I got it. Had to put a scrap piece of 2x4 over the hub and gave it a whack with a BFH. It popped in just about to the lip of the seal. Then I finished it off with a smaller hammer and a big punch in these convenient grooves

hitting a couple of times and moving to the next until it popped the rest of the way. No more CV wobble! Thanks again to Jon @Camerasandcoffee for the tools, Pat @pearing for the texts, and Timm @CygnusX191 for the words of wisdom. I know the rest of you were thinking good thoughts...
