You did mention the battery the other day. Our fobs the battery gets changed after 2 years. Found out the hard way at a Culver's in Steven's Point. Wife did have 2nd fob with her.

I don't think it's the key fob, because I can't lock it manually either. I can only lock it with the key. But, then it starts working after it sits for a couple of hours.

I should probably change the key fob battery anyway, though.

Driver side door lock actuator. Every now and then they get goofy with the weather. It's a pretty simple replacement. I've seen them go out on 15-year-old 4Runners and on 2-year-old 4Runners. It's not terribly common so don't start with the whole Toyota isn't reliable anymore thing (lol), it's just a thing that happens. Happens to Nissan's happens to Chevy's happens to BMWs... (Ask me how long it took us to get a door lock actuator for a Supra...)

If we live closer I'd offered a replace it for the cost of beer and pizza :D

So, seeing all the discussions about clean trucks I am feeling bad. This is an almost permanent state these days... I wash, power wash, polish all morning and then go wheel'in in the afternoon. Messy, messy. Starting to wonder why I spend so much energy cleaning: however, "dirt everyday" has been pretty much my mantra this summer...

Thank you! I'll look into this. Do you have any idea what the cost of the part is, approximately?

Don't worry, I have no concerns about reliability. Considering the abuse I put it through, I'm more than satisfied with how it's holding up. :)

This was the part I needed for my rear passenger door lock for my 2013 Tacoma.

I could look it up, also. I was just looking for a ballpark.

Just to clarify, it works fine with the key, even when the fob won't work.

What does the actuator actually do?

I'm really curious, because none of the doors will even try to lock with the fob when this happens. It doesn't beep. It seemed like the fob was dead. But, pushing the button in the door would cause all doors to lock, then instantly unlock as if the key were in the ignition. But, the doors will lock and unlock properly with the key itself. Then, after the truck sits for a few hours, everything works perfectly fine.

I can definitely make time for that. I will need to reapply on mine before winter as well since I’ve scrubbed off so much this summer.
Speaking of ‘shine. I need to get the two empty jars back to you at some point.

The driver side door actuator acts as a master control for all of them. And the one I just replaced it was literally doing what you're describing and when we put the new one in it worked properly. And yes I could still use the key to manually unlock the door.

Ok. Thank you! I just want to be clear, before I start replacing parts.

How old was the one you just worked on?

    @CygnusX191 does this look right?

I'm not necessarily going to buy it from Amazon. Just checking if the part number seems right.
