I'm putting it in my calendar as tentative. If others are interested in going I'll make the drive down. Can convoy from Kenosha again.

That's closer than I'd thought. I had assumed Schaumburg or some such hideous location. I might go too!

For a tree saver, I have just been using some 30 ft straps that I picked up at Menards. Probably not as nice as some of the fancy name brand stuff, but they have been getting the job done. I just wrapped them around a couple of times if I need them to be short.

I can't remember who it is, but somebody makes a winch rope that has a soft shackle built into the end of it. Now I'm curious and I have to look it up.

You should get the warn reflective winch line (spydura night line)

    No, someone else makes one.

    https://exitoffroad.com/product/brute-recovery-winch-line-with-synthetic-soft-shackle-3-8x-99/

I don't see a working load rating, or anything, which would make me hesitant to buy one.

Side note: Matt uses tow balls to hook recovery ropes to, so I really don't give a shit about what he uses.

Wait, I'm not the only one that thinks Matt isnt God's personal 4x4 recovery. Guy? Cool. Good to know. There's more people with sense out there. Like his videos are fun and entertaining, but every single recovery I've ever watched has some seriously bad form and rookie mistakes made by the so-called professionals.

    :annoyed:
I have a wedding that weekend in Lake Geneva.
    Open Bar!!!!

In the next few weeks every weekend is booked. Daughter has Homecoming, bowling fundraiser for Honor Flight, helping my neighbor purge his parents basement of crap, Halloween, wedding, babysitting the grandson (fishing), and finally a early Thanksgiving with all the family.
Oh almost forgot about family shooting range day. :infantry::infantry::infantry:

@Camerasandcoffee wasn’t sure if you were still planning on Fluid Film application before the snow starts to fall.
We also need to meet up for a few beers:cheers:

I honestly have never watched a full episode. I saw something on one of the follow-up videos discussing the death in Arizona earlier this year where they mentioned that he will also use a pintle hitch for recoveries. Sounds pretty stupid to me.

And then, you look at the YouTube comments, and everybody is just saying "Matt knows what he's doing" so, you know people who don't know what the f*** they are doing are watching these videos and copying his techniques. o_O

A pintle hitch is a very good recovery point if used properly.

It's not. Recovery. Straps can easily slip through the top hook or latch. Especially when under load.
Now a chain won't slip through... But you should never use a chain for recovery. Ever.

Now someone might argue well if you put a big D ring through the pintle hitch and then strap to that... Which would be the preferred way of using one if that was your only option.

But, why not just use the right thing? They make Hitch shackles everyday. They're not expensive, and it only takes a few seconds to change over from whatever you have in your hitch to the proper attachment.

The comments on YouTube are the same way: "Oh, this saves so much time" blah blah blah... I can swap out hitch attachments and hook something to a shackle in about 30 seconds.

And, yeah, the tri-ball will probably work just fine every time. But, why settle for "probably" when you could use something that is designed for the exact application?
