Duh...was brought up before. Pay attention old man.

A buddy and I are trailering down to N GA on Sun...actually, going to Leeds, AL first for the Barber Museum, then over to GA for 5 days.

    Will suck to miss Bayfield.

Thursday 10/06: Drove up to Minnesota and started at Gooseberry Falls state park. Multiple huge waterfalls. Hiked 4+ mile loop from main area to Fifth Falls. Can’t even share everything in 10 pictures so here are the highlights. Main falls is a series of 2 or 3 huge drops.

Upper falls is another big one:

Fifth Falls is upstream and requires hiking a couple miles but is worth it. Hit some rain/snow at this point and it’s getting very cold. Left foot arch tightened up because the shoes I was wearing suck for hiking.

Foot still tight, stopped at Black Beach for a quick look.

Saw a rainbow off one of the islands.

Camping at Cascade River State Park. Hiked the loop right from camp to the falls - a series of 5 or 6 drops way way down in a canyon. Definitely more than I was expecting.

Hiked like 6-7 miles today and drove quite a distance as well. Left foot arch has a goofy Charlie horse so it’s time to chill for a bit. Overnight temps got well below freezing but sleeping in the shell is relatively warm versus a tent.

Campfire kept me warm and relaxed. Nodded off in my chair for longer than I’d admit before finally getting up and going to sleep. Sounds just like home LOL.

Very Cool! I'll have to put Gooseberry Falls state park on my list of places to see.

Friday 10/07: Too cold/rainy/snowy in Minnesota for the hikes I had planned. Foot still hurts a bit too. So much to do up here it’s overwhelming. Sometimes the universe screams instructions at you. Today they told me I need to plan & spend more time up here but for now go back to Wisconsin. So I drove back and started chipping away at my more local waterfall tasks. Pretty boring really, lots of driving and recon for future. Colton Rapids was the first “real” stop - not what I thought, pretty tiny.

Researching how to access two very difficult to reach falls, ended up going down all the two tracks I could find but all are muddy and waterlogged dead ends or blocked by gates. There are two large falls about 2 miles from this gate, I’ve yet to even see a photo of them from anyone anywhere on the web. The mystery continues.

More driving, ended the adventures today at Quarry Park for a rather dinky waterfall that is barely a trickle this time of year. I bet this looks radically different in spring during the snow melt, probably best to visit in that season.

    96FAB467-E279-443A-9B11-6CB4100778AB.jpg

Views along the Flambeau River are nice though.

Stopped for pizza near Ladysmith, nothing to write home about but hot food is pretty awesome. I’ll learn how to cook someday when I stop moving between destinations so fast. Was nice just being indoors for a while to warm my chilled bones.

    8416EA84-6B41-463F-AADA-723E9D34D5F6.jpg

Nearing 2,000 driving miles for the trip. Gaia app weekly report said I hiked 45 miles this week - not much for me really but the 4,000 feet elevation gain is definitely noticed. At camp now with a whopping two bars of service woohoo! Skipped a fire or anything else, I’m tired it’s time for bed.

Here's some of the Wisconsin Tacoma crew hanging out by the fire and telling stories. We had a great dinner in Bayfield at Gruenkes. Shenanigans to come!

Edit: it's hard to get a decent picture at night with a phone.

I'm going to attempt to climb a few fire towers today, so that could lead to some stories.
