lol not as bad as the long haul home from the last northern shellshock WI adventure in July... took me almost 16hrs (with a few rest stops) to get back from Escanaba through Milwaukee and down to Beloit and the awful drive through IL

@Thatbassguy Is it kosher with the campgrounds to bring wood from outlying areas? I know that's an issue with some parks, like Devil's Lake, where firewood can only be gathered from the immediate area.

If it's not an issue though, good looking out!

The Menards stores near me sell the Wisco certified kiln dried firewood. That should be ok right?

After the latest trail reports, still fun for stock trucks not looking to get trashed?

I'd get fire wood when I get up there.
And you won't trash your truck (unless you want to)

Firewood can't be brought in from other areas, unfortunately. There are strict rules due to the Emerald Ash borer beetles.

There are bypasses to the more difficult areas. I've been all over in a stock 4runner. The only issue was picking a bad line and smashing my skid plate on a rock in a puddle

And it looks like the certified kiln dried wood is OK.

Everyone chip in and have someone get a permit from the county for cutting firewood on county land. There should be plenty on the ground. I think the permits are like $15.00.

Cool. I just want to make sure we follow the rules.

I'll probably get some firewood Thursday after I get a spot reserved.

If anyone else is interested in coming up Thursday, let me know.

I’m not sure what the workings of the WI DNR is for their certification requirements but I’m sure it’s similar to the MBA certification in MN. There’s a standard temp and time that things have to be treated to in order to be certified that anything that could be bad is dead from the process.

EAB isn’t the only reason for the strict rules, it is just the most widely known. There are a whole host of things that can spread rapidly through the transport of firewood that are bad for forests.

It only takes one tree to continue the population and spread of insect and disease problems. It’s a big problem in forestry in the states as transportation infrastructure has developed.

The majority of the forest health concerns we have now are a result of the transportation systems unknowingly transportation things from Europe and Asia over to the states to similar species that have had zero interaction and as a result zero resistance to it.

we need those forests to combat global warming
its nasty out today here over 80% humidity and temps in 80s

The trip really must be close, as the 4runner stalking continues - saw this walking back to my truck (there were like 6-7 empty spots behind me, he knew what he was doing!)

You should have told him about the trip!

I posted a thread on 4runners.com and didn't even get a single reply! Let alone any interest..

It's the weekend. Time to change the oil, rotate the tires, and get the 4runner nice and clean before I get it dirty next weekend.:bananadance:

I ran into a girl at Kwik Trip today that had the twin to my truck except different wheels and tires. Looked nice. (The truck)
Told her about our page and the camping weekend. She said she would check it out. We’ll see.
