I disconnect/remove the battery and do a dry clean with brushes/shop vac first. Following that, use a spray bottle with a soapy water mix as a de-greaser in the bay and the underside of the hood.

Once that's done, I cover the engine with a garbage bag/plastic and spray the hood and surrounding bay with a garden hose on low(ish) power. Lastly, remove the plastic covering and use microfiber towels/wet wipes to clean up.

ChrisFix has a great video on this that helped alleviate my concerns:

Remind me to get a pic of my engine bay... :anonymous:

Majority of the engine can be pressure washed at 600 psi. Cover the fuses, alternator, starter, and disconnect the battery.

I believe I just used my garden hose last time. It looked better, but not like the ones in the video!

I so need to do this. I recently had to jump start a coworker and when I popped the bonnet mine was embarrassingly filthy from the last pipeline trip. That said, it's now too close to the next pipeline trip to bother with.

So I was doing a little research on my trailer build and one site recommended replacing tires every 6 years.
Mine have plenty of tread life left. I don’t know why they would suggest wasting money like that.

Ya know, I think this forum gets a bad rap about instigating people to spend money. My first two responses are being very helpful with ideas on saving hard earned cash. Thanks guys, I really appreciate this!

Here's how I explained it to my wife about some of my purchases.

I don't plan on beating my truck up on rocks. The armor is for unenforceable contact. Which could save money by not getting costly body damage. Which did prove itself on the last trip.
And the hazards in the grocery store parking lot.:D

Just out of curiosity where is everyone at on mileage? Got the big 120,000 coming up at the end of the year and I've been slowly buying everything I need to do the full service myself. Only tricky bit will be checking/replacing the transmission fluid.

Forgot the brakes. They will get bled again in a few weeks when I do the Hammer Hangers, new springs and longer brake lines...

It's really easy on the manuals. Since you're an auto, it's honestly not a bad idea to have the dealership do the transmission service. The machines Toyota specs for these are excellent and not the overpowered vacuum garbage crap that lube shops use. Toyota dealerships also do not let the lube text do the transmission service, you're getting an actual diagnostic technician to do that service. You'll be in good hands

Use OEM. They're already iridium and made to tighter specs than any import crap you're going to get from a parts store.
