I can vouch for this. We do this often, and it is a blast. Its not hardcore by any stretch, but is so much fun with a group of like minded folks. There is some really neat scenery as well.

You can stay south if you want even. J frequent the Jackson county forest for trail running and remote camping and its only 2 hours from Madison,!

There's always the option of driving south-ish to Badlands (Attica, IN). Everything from extreme rock crawling to easy trail rides through the woods and creeks. I've never been disappointed with it.

FYI, you can stay updated or get involved with getting our own offroad park up in the Crandon area.

I've never been north of Crandon. I frequently go anywhere from Hwy 55 east to Pine Ridge (the racetrack).

I can vouch that the fire roads in and through the Chequamegon/Nicolet National Forest are entertaining. Lived up there the past 3 years and enjoyed my time spent on the trails. Nothing extreme, but you can get yourself in some pretty sticky situations...

It'll be worth it, just be sure you get a current Forestry map from a local bait shop, Garmin/TomTom maps won't help very much if you get off the main roads and there's no cell service so your IPhone won't work either.... Just saying...

I'm in Milwaukee. You guys know of any interesting terrain in the area? I'm looking to get muddy during spring.
