Depends on the zip code you are in. 45429 is where I am and I do not get a 2WD option but if I use 85001 for Phoenix I do get the 2WD option. A guy was telling me today that you can order a Tacoma with a V8 engine. Has anyone heard of that?

No V8, but you can get the SR with the V6 now.

Trade it for a 2015 4x4 with low miles and that way you get the 4.0L

Ok so the trim package question here.

The TRD sport comes with mirror blinkers
Different tuned suspension, a hood scoop.
And a limited slip differential (lsd)

The TRD off road has a stock locker an (lsd) and different tuned suspension than the sport.

The TRD off road 4x4 comes with everything the offroad does but has A-trac or crawl control
    Both can come with 4x4

An sr5 can have 4x4 but no locker
But I think it has a or can have an (lsd)

    Hope this helps

It depends on which zip code you punch in to the Toyota website. If you punch in a Los Angeles zip code you will see a 4x2 TRD OR as an option. If you punch in an Oregon zip code then it will only display 4x4 for TRD OR. Toyota will only show what they are willing to ship to that region based on what they think will sell in that region.

Living in SoCal myself, there are a lot of 4x2 Tacomas down here that serve their purpose just fine. I got a 4x4 because I wanted to hit the trails. A lot of trucks down here never see the dirt. Hope that helps...

Keep it unless money is no issue for you. You’re going to take a big loss on the truck plus higher monthly payments. Then you’ll be unhappy about your new monthly payments lol

That is technically true, but what you're saying is about the driver, not the truck. All things being equal, the 4WD truck will get you into and out of places the 2WD won't. HOWEVER, there was that one exception- my brother's 2WD 1966 International Travelall with studded snow tires that went up snowy mountains in Vermont when 4WDs were backing down. But that thing was a heavy beast, not a pickup with an empty bed.

How can you have a TRD OR with out 4wd? hence the off road, if you don't eat your meat, you can't have any pudding!

    Ouch. Expensive lesson.

This can be fixed of course, but it's not going to be cheap.

Maybe start looking at what a 2 year old version of what you really wanted can be bought for and work out a financial plan to get there.

Sell it outright where 4x2’s are popular and buy what you want.

Use USAA, Costco, TrueCar or another good buying service if you don’t want to haggle. And remember 2 main things.

    (1) Give the dealer 60 Minutes to do the complete deal or you walk out.

    (2) And the word NO is your friend when buying a vehicle.

For now, never stop on the trail in bad spots, use the locker, keep up momentum, air down and run an aggressive tire.
If you see mud go around or get on the gas. A really good tire will help a lot... 32" Cooper St maxx or similar or better.
Get rid of the stock tires. An aggressive 285 will change the truck off road, you won't need 4 wheel drive much with a good tire.

Prerunners are for racing not for off roading as soon as they slow down they get stuck even with big tires..

Buy a set of rims and good tires and if it's still not doing what you need take the hit and trade it in, but you can drive it for 10-18K and it should still have the same value, so keep it a year or so than take the hit..

Put a solid axle on it with a 4x4 tranny and t case and be done with it.
