Commander you are making me nervous. I am getting the mini's to put in my 2012. Do you have any pics of your installation?

 

^^ please. Interested in doing this at the same time I do my BHLM, but not if there are issues with the 2012 housing/mounting.

 

IMO, take off the alignment ring and adjust the horizontal yourself with a pair of channel locks. They are there to help but you don’t really need them. I had one twist on me when I went to go tighten so I just took it off. Maybe you received the incorrect alignment ring but I doubt it Morimotos should be a direct bolt in plug and play for H4. Hope this helps. You won’t have to take the lens off to take the ring off either...

In all honesty guys there may in fact be something off with the 2012 housings but I don't know...Matt says he's tested a few and they line up perfect and my alignment notch is in the 12 O'clock position which is where it needs to be but both beam patterns are not aligned...installation went perfect and I followed the instructions here: http://www.theretrofitsource.com/pdf/trs_tech/Morimoto_Mini_D2S_Retrofit.pdf

I am overall not satisfied with the light output or the "quick" install and if I was to do it again I think I would go with FXR's > H1's > D2S kit. The additional work for the FXR isn't actually that much once you've already gone to the work to pull everything apart.

Unfortunately I do not have any pictures of the installation process as my time was limited. I did want to do a DIY but I can help anyone with quick tips on removing the lights...its stupid easy on the 2012's...unsure how the older tacoma installation was so I can't compare.

To remove the front grille...2 Silver 10mm bolts on the top near the hood release and 2 plastic rivets on the top next to each headlight. Now pull the bottom of the grille towards the front of the car as there are notches that hold it to the bumper. Should pop right out.

For the plastic piece under each headlight pull the side with the green rivet (look behind) out towards the front (it will pop out)...then pull the other end sideways towards the opposite side of the truck and it will pop out of its slot.

Headlights have two 10mm silver bolts on top. The bottom has a clip that they will pop out of on the side closest to the center of the truck...the side closest to the fender has a tricky 10mm bolt that you will need to reach under with your arm and feel for. This is the only tricky part of the installation. Once you have that bolt removed you need to manipulate the headlight into the correct position so that it pulls out without damaging components...you will see it takes a bit of play.

Just did a prcatice run on seperating the headlight unit on one of the headlights i removed the other day, EASY! no problems. 275 for 8 min.
