^^^ THIS IS THE CORRECT ANSWER ^^^

It is a designed and programmed safety feature. If the ECU or BCM (body control module) detects either an engine stall or airbag deployment, the fuel pump is automatically switched off. This is to prevent potential fuel leakage - and therefore a fire - in the event of a crash.

The proper way to reset it is simply to turn the ignition to Lock / Off and then restart it. You cannot directly re-crank it.

FYI - for those opining it is “flooding” in the time it takes to stall, Long Term and Short Term fuel trims do NOT work that way. Fuel trims are controlled and ONLY controlled by the O2 sensors in the exhaust.

Furthermore, the design purpose of “clear flood mode” - cranking with the gas pedal fully depressed - is so that certain diagnostic functions can be performed (compression test, hooking up an oscilloscope to get a crank/cam- shaft correlation waveform without the engine running such as when a sensor is thought to be defective)

These trucks are most definitely NOT flooding out when inadvertently stalled.

Thank you for the info. Just interesting that this is the only MT vehicle that I have ever owned that does this. I also have a 6 speed 2015 Mustang that doesn't do this if I stall out. I know that's like comparing apples to oranges but I just find it weird. Oh well!

I am happy to help. Each manufacturer is slightly different.

I have owned several manual transmission Ford Mustangs. In contrast to Toyota, Ford uses an “Inertia Switch” to detect impact crashes and disable the fuel pump. It is literally a simple accelerometer that detects instantaneous changes in speed - like going from 40 MPH to zero in a crash.

This is why drivers experience different operating characteristics. Stalling an MT Mustang will never trip the Inertia Switch.

I figured I pitch in. My 2020 trd pro does this. Sometimes you're lazy when getting over a hill or trying to creep on a steep surface or something and you stall. It's very annoying that you can't just turn it back on sometimes. I can crank it for like 5 seconds and nothing. Eventually it turns on and the engine runs really weird. Wish this wasn't an issue, can be very annoying.

Also I don't care how good you are at driving stick, everyone still stalls every now and then. Either that or you're burning your clutch trying to rev it out.
