wonder about frame rust? just bought an 02

i just bought an 02 regular cab prerunner and did not know about this rust issue before purchase. (shoulda done my homework) Now after reading all about it i wonder what if anything i should do? The trucks in shop now getting a new radiator so i haven't even looked at frame yet.

 

If it rust, just take it to the dealer. What else did you want to do?

 

I guess no point in worrying about it now. Everything I was reading sounded like if you took it to the dealer now they wouldn't do anything anymore.

 

If your truck was undercoated by Toyota as part of the campaign, the frame still covered for a couple years. This would likely only have been done it it was from a rust belt state (most Northern states). If its a Southern truck, its likely not covered anymore, but its also not likely to be rusted.

The site isn't working at the moment for me to check, but I think my records show an inspection and undercoating. I know they show the later frame replacement.

 

Like others have said, if it was coated by Toyota, then they'll replace it should it rust now. If it wasn't coated, you're SOL.

If you're SOL, you're in good company. My truck wasn't coated either even though it was eligible, but it came from the south so it's in decent shape. I'm having it coated next week and crossing my fingers.
