Wondering about lift kits

    I dont know much about lift kits so i was wondering what the difference between a body lift and a suspension lift is?

    5100's all on fours
    A body lift moves the cab off the frame. A suspension lift raises the frame via the suspension.

    This is probably a dumb question but do the 2 different lifts make the truck look different depending which you have?

    body lifts are ugly. suspension lifts are not.

    Suspension lifts are the way to go.... Body lifts died in the 80s, let them stay there

    You want a lift for looks?

    Two things to know:

    1. Lifting your truck changes it from how it was designed. Some stuff may not work as well as designed, or may wear out faster. Example VSC, driveline vibrations, front diff bearings, front CV boots. Pay your money, take your chances. No whining.

    2. Lots of guys on this forum will bash "spacer" lifts pretty hard. For a truck that stays on the pavement, however, I don't see a problem. Lot's of folks successfully use Toytec and Revtek spacer lifts. In fact Toytec will tell you, if you're listening, that they sell more spacer lifts than any other kind.

    Most folks prefer an "add-a-leaf" in the back to a block in the back. An add-a-leaf will enhance your load carrying capacity. Block won't.

    Les Schwab will install a 3" Revtek spacer lift for (roughly) $650 bucks.

    Yeah, it's also worth pointing out that most of us think that if you're gonna go to the trouble and expense of modifying your suspension, you should do the work yourself in order to save money and gain experience.

    But it depends on your mechanical background. I'd never e.g. recommend doing a suspension swap to someone who'd never changed their own oil.
