Just caged/linked my Tacoma and I've been pulling a lot of the unused harnesses like abs, seat sensors, airbag control module, yaw/roll sensors, trailer brakes, etc. After removing all wiring in the cab that isn't under the dash, my truck wouldn't start without disconnecting the battery to reset the ECU first. The only code prior to reset was the EVAP, which will always be present due to the fuel cell.

Any ideas what in the SRS control module harness could've caused it to not start without throwing a code? It would turn over and sputter prior to disconnecting the battery, but wouldn't start at all. Also this has me wondering, what are the bare minimum sensors I need for my truck to run? Looking at all the wiring I'm sure there are dozens of silly non-critical systems and cables that'll ruin my day.

I've run lots of trucks with out the ABS connected just for diag, I would suspect you have a 5v reference line interrupted somewhere.

The 5v reference does go to the charcoal/evap canister. That may be where the problem lies.

    My 2 cents!

Oh, lol! When you said caged that the first thing that came to mind, but you were talking about electrical issues, thought it was some sort of ecu mod or something, lol!

    Bad ass truck BTW!

The 5v reference makes sense, except for no wiring was touched between disconnect and successful start. If it was shorted momentarily while I was pulling wires, would it require a restart to power the ignition/fuel system? I couldn't hear the fuel pump prior to the restart.
